    Scooter and Kangaroo

Today 0545am riding to work , the road was very lonely, mainly semi rural hobby farms. Ahead I could seem something standing in the middle of the road and it wasn’t going to move. Putting on the brakes I could see it was a kangaroo. I stoped and he was reluctant to move, I gave him a little toot he flicked his ears at me and in a rather indignant manner scuffled off into the scrub. I throttled up and continued my journey.

You can’t put a price on that can you?

You certainly can't put a price on that, they are magic moments.  Only problem is when you have to make a big distance in a short time, it makes it exhausting.

One morning I had within 50km, 3 roos (ok, 2 roos, 1 wallaby), 2 kolas and 1 wombat.  Brakes and brain got a workout at that 4am trip.

We do live in the lucky country.

One of my first learner street rides was through a McMansion housing development in Cameron Park, the type with artificial lakes and lots of 'traffic-calming' short roads and roundabouts.

I had to make way for ducklings! :-D

about 1pm yesterday, exiting off mitchell fwy onto hepburn ave, there was a big roo getting ready to cross the road, and when i passed him, i saw in the rear vision mirror that he hopped over to the other side, luckily just avoiding the traffic.

    Re: Scooter and Kangaroo

I used to have to ride on very dark roads on my way to work at 5.30am, and I used to come across the odd kangaroo or wild animal.

That was fine, as they never cause me any grief, but it was scary as all hell when you scooter lights only light up a few metres ahead of you, and you cant see diddly squat!  I just sat to the middle of the road, and was on vigilant lookout.

It was always a little freaky to come across a roo on the side of the road, but also quite amazing to see them there.  I have seen the damage they can do it a car many times, I would hate to think what they could do it a scooterist.

This is my regular ride to work at all hours. Going to have to be real careful from now on. I dont mind roos just standing in the middle of the road, at least you can see them. The problem is when they just hang off the side of the road near the bush that`s when its risky.

    Thanks.

How good are your lights?  Mine were CRAP on the Jog in those conditions.  Then I got the Bee Wee (but was only filling in at that site so didn't do the trek often), but major improvement

@ Stuscat: I presume you were driving instead of riding the zx50 on the freeway?

And the mirrors on your scooter show something other than a rearward view.............

ScootaChic,  I think you need to get Steve to show you how to adjust your mirrors and to explain to you they are NOT for checking your hair & make-up.

I remember when cycling through London late at night, I would regularly come across foxes in the middle of the London streets.

I'm looking forward to getting my scooter so I can be a bit more aware of my suroundings than in a car!
