Big changes in the Australian scooter market...

Picked up a trade journal today, and read an interesting article that stated that the Bug Scooters name is going to disappear, and that it will soon be available under the Kymco  branding.  Also that Kymco Australia will be expanding into ATVs and maybe motorcycles too.  It will be interesting to see how they manage this transition, and the impact it might have on sales and the dealer network.  I wouldn't be wanting to expand into ATVs and motorbikes.

For sure Steve, ATV's are tough. You either buy a good Jap brand (if you're a farmer for instance) or you buy a piece of Chinese crap. Kymco, like the SYM ATV's, is neither of those, and so would be a tough sell. The farmers wont want them because they are not Jap, and the bogans wont want them for tearing up the local playground because they're not cheap enough.

I think it will work in Bug's favour to re-brand as Kymco however. Bug have been sleeping for a while now, since the change of ownership, and I think they will hit the market again with some force. Others disagree with me, but we'll revisit this in months to come...

I personally hope that these tough times being experienced by all will see the end of some of that woefully built Chinese crap currently saturating the market.

It's certainly time for the importers to revisit those marketing cutbacks, and get into some serious advertising. The marketing savvy ones will boost online presence. I'm amaized there's only a little bit of advertising in these forums. E2W and Corazzo are the only 2 on this site. Well done E2W and Corazzo for being innovative

Im amaized too? It seems strange that you have Australia's biggest scooter forum and you only a hand full of dealers such as Ace, ScooterHQ, The scooter Shop and myself are the only one's on here posting advice but also pushing their business at the same time. Does this mean that all other scooter shops are so busy they dont need to take advantage of Allen's liberal view of self advertising via the forums?

Yes it is amazing posting on forums and web blogs especially is some of the best and cheapest form of advertising available as when people search the net they are finding you or more the dealers on this site when searching for information on different scooters or any product or service for that matter.

It is one thing to run a shop it is another thing to be an enthusiast. We have had industry people on here but unless they are an enthusiats who is in the business as opposed to a business person in scooters I don't think they really connect. I think it is important for industry players to disclose who they are & not blatantly push product, we have our own websites & ads for that.

There isn't a code of conduct for us dealers as Allen has had no need to implement one, mostly we all seem to play by the "unwritten rule" that if it is advertising rather than advice then pay for it.

My point is more about your expertise than advertising your product as people will trust your opinion through what they read and then make a decision to maybe look at your business if they require service or sales.

     Big Smile

That was fantastic Brendon. You're not advertising, you're simply showing your brands. Advertising and endorsements/advocates are different in my book.

But I did look at that and chuckle thinking 'cheecky bugger'

My signature simply says I like popping caffiene pills eh?

But kymco has a world wide name. You can easily find info on the kymco brand. It is like fym putting sachs on there scooter. It is a well known brand world wide ans seen as a good german manufactorer.  I tried getting parts over seas for my bug, that was a pain in the rear cas nobody had heard of it, but when i said kymco, it became much easier.
