    Mio / Vino Top Speeds

    pHey Again Guys….

I’m getting more excited and it’s not long now!

I was chatting to a friend of mine, who rides a 650 “motorbike” and she reckons that a 100cc won’t be enough “to get me out of trouble”.

Does anyone have any idea what the top speed is of the MIO and the VINO (125)….

When I drive in my cage, I’ve been paying attention to my speedo…and I’m usually doing 80 or more (shhh) in the 70 and 70-80 in the 60! Naughty I know!!!

From your experience do you guys really think that the Mio and or VINO will be happy peaking out at top speeds for the majority of their time being ridden???

Problem is still want retro look, but Vespa is too expensive!!!!!!!

Re: Mio / Vino Top Speeds

I think Denni got into the 90's on her Mio.  But she weighs the same as a fly!

On my Yamaha BeeWee max was 95kms.  I found it more than capable of keeping up with most every day traffic, and it had that little bit extra grunt where it was needed.

You just have to weigh up your personal needs.  No offence, but sometimes the larger motorbike riders just dont understand the scooters, and very much underestimate them.

Does this scooter make my bum look fast?

Bike riders like to have plenty in reserve & tend to buy scoots of 200cc or above, more 125cc scooters sell worldwide than any other capacity.

No - You may have to go to a commuter style 125 like VS or S1 which will do 100 + making 80 a cruise or spend the extra & get an LX or Mojito

You wouldn't if you owned one of these Cool

or anything decent for that matter, doesn't have to be top shelf to be a shed load of fun, just reliable.

I think the Mojito is the 'Jamie' bike, cute, retro, kind of looks like a cruiser.. check out the Aprilia website www.aprilia.com.au

Depending on the brand, there could be merits in a 125cc over a 100cc, if the difference in power is anything like my experience yesterday. I normally ride a TGB 150cc, but had a loaner 125cc. I didn't think there would be much difference (come on, 25cc), but I have to say trying to accelerate up a slight slope on the loaner, it was a struggle hitting 80kph. It's never been a struggle on my TGB (for postees who are about to mention my dodgy speedo, 95kph=80kph actual & it is no drama). If this is the case between a 100 & 125cc, then I would suggest go the bigger capacity scoot. You wouldn't want to be riding at top capacity all the time, what if you need some spare ccs to get yourself out of trouble?

Don't be sad, it's good that you are thinking about what you will actually want to do with your scoot, better now than when it's too late. There's been some good suggestions for alternatives, so why not go take a look. You may find that when you sit/ride on the alternatives, you may like them better anyway. Best of luck, PP

Capacity isn't everything, quality & design of engine are very important.

Things like your TGB303 RS 150 are a good ol scoot but are now showing their age running a 2 valve 4 stroke engine. Most of the new stuff is running 4 valve 4 stroke engine giving more power from less capacity & use less fuel. VS 125 & Daelim S1 have more power than the TGB 150. Jump up to the liquid cooled stuff & the power increases again. Example

Cheap aircooled 125 produces up to 6.5kw

    Good aircooled 125 produces 7.5 to 8.5kw

Excellent aircooled 125 is over 8.5kw

Jump into a good liquid cooled 125 & power jumps to 11kw.

The from the same technology you get different performance. As an example the Mio 100 produces more power than the Vino 125, its lighter too.

What I am trying to say is you can get lost in a world of statistics, trust nothing but your bum, take them for a ride...

Re: Mio / Vino Top Speeds

    hello scooter HQ....

what are your thoughts on this.....

    ET4 150 Vespa 02 model about 4000k's with top box for $4k

LX 150 Vespa 05/06 model about 6,500 k's with top box for $5k

i'm now starting to look around in the second hand market as my budget WAS about $3-4 when i first started!!

I feel confused, disheartened, frustrated, impatient and like crying! :-(

By the way, can you clarify what the "ride away" price is of the 08 Vespa LX 150 is......is it like $5790 + on road or is this the ride away price??

Thanks and sorry for being a confused pain in the ***!

There should be quite a few LX150's about in good condition as their riders start eyeing off the GTS 250/300's. The lady who was riding this one on the Northern Beaches Scooter Club run last weekend was talking about up grading. Only had 2500ks on it and not even run in. It was immaculate. I thought the price of a LX125 was $5999 plus on roads, but that doesnt mean you cant get a deal on a demo or near new 2nd hand. Its hard to figure out beforehand why to pay the extra $2000 on an Italian, that is until you own one.

The best thing you can do is test ride as many as possible.  Retro, sports, you name it.  The choice will be made easier, and you might be surprised with what you pick!

This is so true. I had my heart set on a Piaggio Liberty 125 or something retro/classic looking, including the Vino or Espresso, but ended up with a sporty scoot. I had a budget up to $5K, as I intended my purchase to be a learner scoot & given the total lack of second-hand scoots in Canberra I couldn't afford to look at Vespas. Definitely ride whatever you can & perhaps look elsewhere if the dealer isn't comfortable letting you do this. Personally, it's all about ride comfort, safety, reliability & then the pretties, but then I have to say that as my scoot looks like something Batman would drive!
