    I've yet to receive a nod!! :(

I'm not sure if it's because I'm over anxious and nodding my @ss off or because I'm not riding something european but I've had absolutely no recipricol nods since starting out on my HD over a month ago now..very sad!

I remember when I used to ride 'big' bikes barely a day went by when I didn't pull up at the lights or ride past another sports bike without a nod, and by all accounts assumed it would be the same with scoots. I'm amazed..even in our local bike parking area which is literally filled with ~100 odd bikes and scoots, nobody says 'boo' to one another.

Anyone else felt this? I kind of get the feeling that everyone I'm coming across is a pure 'commuter' and couldn't care less about what they're actually riding..it's just a mode of transport.

But I will persist damnit...I have to be able to get at least one!!

I would give you a nod, but I'm in Canberra. It's a bit hit & miss here, especially between 'big' bikes & scoots, but generally good with other scooterists. So, perhaps it's a Sydney thing? Everyone in too much of a hurry to be polite?!

    Keep trying & good luck

Don't give up! The return rate for nods isn't what it should be, especially amongst the scooter riders (!), but can only improve if more people initiate the nods and also talk about it in forums such as this one. We've got to re-educate riders. Of course some are determined not to nod, especially to a scooter rider, but nod at them anyway as they'll hate it! Big Smile

Also try nodding on weekend joy rides, I find I get a better return rate if nodding, waving or tooting to others also out on a joy ride.

Nope, lots of talking happens down here when we get on our rides that are parked on the footpath out front of work while they are warming up when leaving work for the day. I find I don't get a nod from scooters even though I nod at them.  But then again, I come from old school.

I think that's because many of our scooter riding bretheren consider themselves to be part of the "latte crowd" and are waaay too cool to respond to anything as un-hip as a friendly gesture from a fellow rider. LOL

I always give the nod and so far I only had 2 return nods from scooter riders. Motorbike riders seem to be a bit more friendly in that regard.

And, oddly enough, I've actually had waves from the odd cager when I've been nice and let them into the traffic flow or given way - it just goes to show that being a friendly and considderate road user can have an effect on other road users. Please don't tell anyone I said that - If anyone finds out that there are nice cagers in Perth then the world may just come to an end. Tongue Tied

Actually my thoughts are quite the same (as sad as it is to say)..and also true r.e cagers..I've got a few waves of 'hello' and 'thanks' after waving them in in front of me..probably more then I got when I drive my car come to think of it! haha

Everyone nods to everyone down here. Harley riders, scooter riders, old, young- you name it, they nearly all nod.

But then again, we leave our doors unlocked at night too. It's a different world down here in Taswegia. The beer is betterBeer, the roads are better, the traffic is better (but for some reason our council rates are higherConfused)

Consider yourself having received a nod (long distance)Smile

It varies.  Day to day seems to be better than weekends in the 'Gong, but weekends the roads are full of riders. You'd think that if they are happy enough to come along for a visit, they'd be happy enough to nod to the yokels.  Never mind, each nod you get is worth a smile and you know the folks here are happy to connect with you.

I got a flash from sports bike the other night too which I gave a wave ( not sure he could see it though ) then I got around the corner and I decided to give the flash to a scooter ( looked like a vespa but could have been a copy ) and I got nothing, very dissappointing, but I have got a few nods off others, I find the bike riders more noddy, but you always get the ones who think there two important.

I like the flash and the wave - maybe I could start all four at once flash- wave -nod - toot

isn't the general consesus that a flash means either - lights are off, speed trap ahead or something else wrong? I prefer a cheery wave, it pisses the sports bike riders, & others who take themselves too seriously, right off.

Yeah not sure I'd do the flashing thing..but waving, nodding, and looking like a goofy idiot seems right up my alley Wink
