    Bug 500 xciting

    Hi All,

Well today is the day, I am sitting at home on my day off waiting for the call from my dealer ( Don at Moto Central Canberra) to call and say my bike has finished it's pre sales service and i'm back on the road. YAY.

Sad to see my little Bug Agilty 125 go, it's been fun baby.

Planning a run from Canberra to Coffs in mid November, so want to run her in and look at some nice toys ( Scala Headset, Rider Tom Tom etc).

    Fingers Crossed.

I just collected 'her' she is sooo shiney and the red brakes look HOT.

She is so big, and you really feel yourself checking the speedo, it gets away from you..

Congratulations on your purchase Wade!  I'm guessing you'll notice A LOT of differences between the Xciting and Agility.

(Hey is that meant to be a photo of your new beast?  If so, can you post it again cos it's not showing up... at least not for me!)

     Sure No worries,

Whats the best way of checking?  I heard some one using their phone. I have a N95 8Gig.

I am just about (ie tomorrow) to do a speedo check on my XcitingR using my GPS  will report back as soon as...from what I have read in other forums I expect it to read about 8-10 kph high ie actually driving slower than indicatedSnail

    speedo readings

    speedo reading

    KPH

    GPS mph actual

    GPS kph actual

    60 32 51
    70 35 56
    80 42 68
    90 45 72
    100 52 84
    110 57 92
    118 60 97
    125 62 100
    133 65 105
    140 70 113

I graphed the readings  and estimated the actual 100kph value , it wasnt easy reading the faster speeds due to wind, vibration and the gps changing its readout on a second by second basis but they are overall pretty near the mark ie abot 20% low

Wow thats way out! There are 5X1k blue signs setout on certain freeways around Sydney. I use these to check speedos. also travelling with a whole bunch of traffic thru a well sign posted speed camera will give you a fair idea of your real speed.

20% is a LONG way out. I'm sure i have read something about a speedo should be within 10% of the true speed under the ADR's. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

ADR specs are 10% + 6kph which makes 16kph tolerance .....  I actually called DPI & have reported to them ..... I keep getting so many excuses from BUG & Kymco .... They fitted a new set up to my 500 & it is just within the tolerance ... It is reading about 10 to 12 kph now ...... Bug & Kymco recon this is satisfactory to them ..... As a customer & knowing that the speed cameras have very little tolerance ,,, It is simply not good enough ....  It seems like they dont really give a stuff about client feed back ....................    The scooter is a good machine , but it sems BUG/Kymco are not as proud as us , to ride there products & actually give the impression , that our commments and feed back are not very welcomed .....

Instead of making the speedo as true to the actual reading they have made it just within tolerance ..... Im simply very peeved off with there attitude towards there clientle ....

I am still waiting for a replacement seat , which has been going on since July ..... The answer I got recently , was they have not got a replacement seat ..

The front mudguard bolts came loose , one fell out ..... They replaced it with normal bolts instaed of the original allen key, anodised grey ones ....

I am not very happy at all with the attitude & feed back that I am receiving .... BUG have not called me back in regards to these matters , this was a week ago ..

I put everything i n writing  a month & a half ago , requested they reply in writing .....     Still no reply ........

I get feed back which is months over due , from the shop I bought it from ......    I have invited BUG/Kymco to contact me direct .... Still they have ignored all my issues .......

It looks as though I must go through legal proceedings to sort the matter out ...............

Shame ......  It should have never got to this stage ...............

Once I have sorted the matter out  & rectified the speedo to a true reading at a cost of $220.00 a few hours fitting an electronic device ......  I am going to sell the scooter , due to the attitude of BUg & Kymco ...................    They have shot themselves in the foot ......

The scooter is great & I very much enjoy the ride , I also had no intention to get rid of the fine machine ..... But hey , If they are not as proud as me to own one . Then Bugger them .......

Anyone who has any speedometer issues are best to contact the DPI ......

     Especially anyone owning an Xciting500i .......   ross.pettersson@infrastructure.gov.au  or 02 6724 7420  ....

Then they will be able to sort the matter out directly with them on our behalf ......

If you contact your dealer about it , they will contact Bug/Kymco & you will end up with a speedometer that is just within tolerance & does not read anywhere near the true speed ....    Do yourselves a favor & follow the link to DPI ..... They are very interested in looking into the matter ....

Call Ross directly would be the best way to follow up .....

ADR compliance is  10% + 6kph  ......   I myself look at this as way to far out ... I am writing to Anthony Albanese in regards to the ADR being to tolerant for road use .....    I dont like being pushed into the gutter by vehicles , due to these tolerances ...... So I am writing to the Minister of Transport directly to address the ADR issues ...... They simply are not safe enough for motorcyles & scooters .....

This day and age , a speedo should be no more than 2% , that is the way speed cameras are set aswell  , so really speedometers should comply to the same specifictions as the speed cameras aswell ..........................

Do Us All A Favor contact Ross at the DPI     ..................

I copped a $700.00 & 5 demerit point fine due to these issues we are having ...........    At the time the speedo didnt even work ......

Good on your for pushing this one, though the realist in me thinks that it may end up working to our detriment. Sad  Australia isn't really a particularly big market for scooters on the global scale of things, and if the global norm is for scooters to have inaccurate speedos (and its a pretty common feature), then I'm not sure how far companies will bend to get Aus compliance.  They might just say "*** it, its too hard".  Though I hope not.   But if you look at the situation with helmets you'll get the idea - a large number of quality manufacturers don't bring helmets (which are DOT and Snell compliant) into Australia because the cost of getting them tested is too high and makes it economically unfeasible for the importers to bring them in.

But as you say, in this day and age, it really should be possible for speedos to be a lot more accurate, particularly if we are getting pinged with machine who have a much lower error tolerance.  Doesn't seem particularly fair.

We ALL look forward to hearing how this progresses.
