Hi All

 I'm in the market for a new scooter and really like the look of the Sym Firenze, can anyone give me any advice good or bad about this scooter or make any recommendations for any other scooters out there. I'm looking at the 200-250cc scooters.

I'm in the ACT.

I loved the look of it but don't know whether or not to get it. Basically I'm just trying to find out if Sym make a good/reliable scoot? Or if people have anything good/bad to say about Sym scooters?

SYM are a reliable brand with good parts backup and a 4 year warranty. You shouldn't have any dramas with a Firenze.

Thanks for the advice, I guess the next step is to actually take one for a test ride....Did you have any other recommendations that I should take a look at before making my decision?

Biggest issue is that they need to be serviced every 3000km. 

Compare that to a Piaggio XEvo (or any other 250cc which hosts the Quasar engine) which needs to be serviced every 10,000km.  We stopped stocking the Firenze after a year of stocking the X8 (the forerunner of the Xevo), because despite the lower price, the Firenze's remained in the shop...

Ive been working through some of the scooters in this range. (see What scooter are you test riding? thread.} Liked the look of the Firenze but it was too much a cruiser for my likings. My top 4 so far and in no particular order are the Vespa GTS250ie, the Piaggio Beverly250ie , the Derbi GP1 250ie, and the Bug/Kymco/ Hawk/Ego 250. Also the Aprillas {Sportcity and Scarabeo) are getting good raps. Go and do some test rides and post what you like

 If you want a Sym, I would hold out for the Citycom, far better scoot I reckon.  Not long now...

Hey, I'm in the ACT too. Someone at work has a Firenze, nice looking scoot. I will ask them about it if I see them in the garage or leave them a note to send you a post here. Only problem with buying a new Sym in Canberra is having to deal with a particular scooter dealer. He's totally unhelpful & when I was interested in buying the Euro he couldn't even be bothered to get one in for me to test ride. He took down my details & I never heard from him again! Ended up buying a TGB 150 instead & am v. happy with my purchase. I'm also happy with the dealer I chose & doing the servicing in Mitchell. Lyn (& Don) were really great & I've also heard good things about their workshop, from both bike & scoot owners. Just in case you decide a sporty scoot is more your style, Joe's out at Fyshwick had a 2nd-hand HD 200 for sale about 2 weeks ago, along with a couple of other big scoots. That same scoot dealer in Phillip did say he would get one in, but who knows... Good luck with your test rides, hope you find something you like.

I went and had a test ride of the Scarabeo 200, Bug Hawk 250 and the Firenze.....Out of all 3 I like the Firenze and Scarabeo. Sadly the dealer just sold his Firenze and told me that the prices were going up on them $1000 which puts it in the same price range as the Xevo (I think). So now I'm tossing up between the Firenze (if I can find one for that original price) or the Scarabeo...only thing swaying my decision is the fact the the Scarabeo is a 180cc..can anyway give me some advice on this.......

Also, if anyone knows where I can maybe get a Firenze for the original price that is close enough to the ACT it would be greatly appreciated.

If its the new 08 LC Scarabeo they run a fairly advanced Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 4 valve engine that produces 19hp or 14.2kw of power & 17Nm of torque which is just on the heals of a few 250's. The Firenze 250 is 15.6 kw & 21Nm similar power but the 250 has the torque or grunt.

They are very different scooters but either of them will serve you well, you've ridden both. Ignore the figures & go with what feels right for you.

Thats why I put up the heads up on price rises on our Blog. If you are a buyer get in now & secure a scoot that was imported on a high Aussie dollar because the stuff that will be replacing it will have been bought on a low Aussie dollar & will be more.

. They are about in Sydney, I think Firebrand in Artarmon still have one at a cheap price. It would be a good run back to Canberra on a new scoot too.

What Scooter HQ is saying is good advice. It might also be harder to get a loan if the credit crisis keeps up. Upgrade before the recession hits.

The more I look at the Bug Hawk 250 the more I like it, I'm going to have another ride of it in the next couple of days......

 Anybody have any comments about the Hawk 250.

I reckon the Hawk is a contender. Only rode it for 10 minutes but it sure felt quick and sporty. Very handleable? and good value for money + 4 year warranty. I liked the look of the white one with the EGO 250 livery. I went that close to getting one. Gets big raps on US blogs.
