    lack ofr power TGB101S

Hi my TGB101S has never run properly it has been 10-15k/hr slower then other TGB's. First there was a problem with a nut coming off in the gearbox, this was fixed but when I got the scooter back the initial take-off was a lot better but my top speed is still down.I brought5 it back and the dealer said that the belts were still a bit tight. I doubt this because the difference is to the point where a 110kg guy on the same scooter as me leaves me for dead and I only weigh 75kg!!?? All I want is for my scooter to perform as it should but to this day I have not seen 75K/Hr but everyone else has!!What can I do now as my dealer told me to ride it for another month and then come back if it is not better. This scooter has only done 2400Km.Have I got a dud???

    Dud scooter, or dud dealer?

Technically/legally, you haven't got much of a leg to stand on unless you've got something on your contract that says that the vehicle will do these speeds - and given that they are only supposed to do 50kmh legally, you are going to find that difficult.  The only guarantee is that it should go 50kmh, and if it can do that, then its fit for purpose. What has been done to get your scooter to go over 50kmh?

There does tend to be a lot of variation in performance in scooters, particularly at this end of the market.  But I'm doubly intrigued about nuts coming off in the "gearbox".

If you are looking for something to go reliably at 75kmh, I'd strongly recommend thinking about getting your license, and a bigger scooter.  A 125cc would easily satisfy your needs.

Thanks Steve, not looking to good for me.:(In regards to the nut and gearbox, I got told that a nut in the gearbox had de-threaded (causing the power from the engine not transfered to back wheel)and that most of it had to be replaced.I inturn waited 3.5weeks for the relevant parts.I hope the good will of the people i'm dealing with will see me through this. :)

Thanks Steve, The scooter has only had the factory restrictions removed.Do you think there might have been something wrong from the factory? And what would you do as a dealer in regards of the moral right thing to do?Would the warranty not pay for cost to find this problem?Kevin

Hi Kevin - its hard to say if something was wrong from the factory, but I'd doubt it.  Was it derestricted when you bought it, or afterwards?  Its possible that whoever derestricted it forgot to do something when they put it all back together, but I could be speaking entirely out of turn. This is purely based on the fact that we've never had a "factory" problem of this nature, which makes me think that its more likely to have occurred post production (and thereby, technically, not warrantable).

Personally I'd be looking to try to get more from the dealer, but unfortunately in this industry, morals are in somewhat short supply.  But don't pick a fight with the dealer, and try to keep them as sweet as possible if you have any hope of positive resolution.  There are some salutary lessons for all of us in your tale.  Good luck.

The scooter was derestricted by the dealer without me requesting it and it stayed in for the first 1000Km to protectr the motor and they then took it out.Whatever they do to all there scooters before they sell it I think?Kevin Schuurmans.

Thereby making your vehicle illegal without your, or any other customers consent.  Nice.

Dealers (and members of the public) are liable to a fine of $13,000 per vehicle for derestricting them.  If this has been done without your consent, you may have some bargaining power here.  But use it wisely grasshopper.

But did the problems occur post derestriction?  Or did you have them since you bought the vehicle?

In my opinion its never been right but im not a mechanic.Even at full throtle it kind of seems to be spluttering and misfiring. I was on another scooter watching this happen as we were riding. With this information over the phone the dealer thought it still had the restrictor in it but when he had a look it wasn,t the case.

My fuel cap is not sitting on the tank properly.Part of the seal sits up on the shell of the body leaving a gap.The tank has always been slightly out of centre but since getting it back it is a lot worse could this have anything to do with it?? I appreciate the time Thanks Kevin

See the other thread.  The CDI restriction is still in place.  The 101S and 303RS shouldn't be using the variator restrictor due to the CDi doing what ADR require, however the R50X uses a variator restrictor also.

No, this ain't right.  Sounds like you might have a carby full of 2-stroke oil.  Has the scooter been laid on its side at all?

Try and drain the carbie, and see what comes out.  (Do you know how to do this? - Just loosen the screw at the bottom and whatever is in the carbie bowl should drop out through a plastic drain tube.)   The contents should be just petrol.  No oil, and no water (which will look like "bubbles" as it won't mix with the petrol).

Sorry Kevin - didn't see this one, but it strongly suggests that you've possibly got water in your petrol.  Your petrol cap needs to fit tightly.

Thanks again Steve you seem to get me closer to the source of my problems with every reply. I now have somethings I can suggest to my dealer as before I had nothing. The scooter has never been on its side.Kevin SchuurmansWink
