    Bolwell HD200 first service at......?

Just checking..when is the first service for a Bolwell HD200? I think I remember the guys saying it was 500K but the book sort of makes it look like it's @ 1000..just want to be sure I'm doing everything right.

    Cheers,

I 'd be pleased if you could respond to these questions. What work is carried out on the second service? And at what ks should this be? And how much do you usually charge?  I am an SYM HD200 owner.

    2nd Service is at 2,500kms

You will see in your manuals there are two service books one from SYM the other from Select. If you go by just what Select have listed in their book it only highlights a few of the things from the SYM book. This book is more of a quick reference to see what bits have been done.

What we do at 2nd service

    • Check & clean airfilter
    • Replace engine oil
    • Check battery & tyre pressures
    • Inspect & replace spark plug (if neccessary)
    • Check idle & throttle adjustment
    • Check trans oil - we replace every service but book is every 5,000kms
    • Inspect coolant & lines
    • Check brakes - Pads, shoes on the old one paying particular attention to the front for hard riders.
    • Check engine mounting bolts
    • Check valve clearances
    • Check Cam chain
    • Lubricate cables & pivot points
    • Check headset bearing adjustment
    • Check belt drive & variator, clean if necessary.
    • Check suspension
    • Test ride
    • Kick tyres

Cost is usually between $140 & $150 for this one, can be more if customer is hard on the scoot or brings it in filthy. We are on the Gold Coast & don't have the same rental overheads that the Melbourne, Sydney & Brissie shops have.

Thanks for your comprehensive reply, Scooter HQ.

Can anyone recommend a Bolwell servicer in Melbourne. Where they are certain that all of the checks outlined by Scooter HQ are actually done? Say several years of satisfactory scooter maintenance. Are scooter specialists more reliable than large motorbike shops when it come to servicing our little scoots?

Sorry mate I'm in Qld perhaps Service@Bolwell can suggest one. What about the dealer you got it from?

I think so, when you ride & service the same scoots regularly you get to know their little nuances, which ALL scooters have. We know the stuff we sell intimately, the stuff we don't sell, we don't know as well.

If the bike shop looks down at the scoot take it elsewhere.

Pete from Everything Two Wheels is pretty spot on the money when it comes to scoots (and anything high performance).

     Big Shop or scoot specialist?

Well I prefer any QUALIFIED mechanic to perform any work on anything automotive ,A dealer or service center with knowledge of that product is ofter better informed than some one that is not in contact with the factory/importer .

Re: Bolwell HD200 first service at......?

Uh oh..now I'm REALLY confused. I just got a 'courtesy' call from Scooter Central last week to see how I was enjoying the HD..and so I took the opportunity to ask them when the first service was..and they said 1000km !!!

I looked in the manual afterwards and it indicates one at 500Km..and my current odometer reading is 566kms Sad There's no way I can get in before the weekend now and I have 200+ km's this weekend planned.

How bad is it if I completely bypass the 500km mark???

Considering it is a first service, I would be getting it done as soon as you can.

The first service can be quite important.

It is 500K's. While the rest can wait another 200K's the oil change can't.

Was the warranty a motivating factor when you purchased the HD? The warranty works both ways. They agree to cover it for 4 years, you agree to service it by the book. You have to keep up your end of the bargain for them to keep up theirs. To avoid any drama's get it done.
