    Q-ride hints/tips

    Hi all,

I'm booked in to do my Q-ride course in a couple of weeks and have been scouring the net trying to find out what the course/test entails.  I know that it is competency based, and have seen the high level competencies, but would love to know what the test involves (ie. what do they get you to do?).

I'm doing the course with Morgan & Wacker and have already done scooter training with them before, so I have a bit of an idea of what to expect, but would love to know more.

    Any help/assistance/comments/thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi I did mine at M&W and it was a hoot. I learnt heaps, it isn't too hard at all, the first part is theory, logical and informative. Then comes the prac. You are taken through a series of different manouvers: starting off, counter steering, figure 8's, cornering, slow riding, braking etc. Then off on the road with the instructor for a prac assessment. It is a tiring day but fun! I can't tell you how good it was to do, an absolute essential for any rider... I'm going back for more courses... technique, technique, technique. Relax and have fun

Pretty much as Rick63 described it.

If you get Hawkeye at M&W, he is a bundle of laughs and very helpful.  I cannot remember the other guys name but they are/were very helpful when I went a little over 12 months ago.

Most important thing to remember is relax and listen to them.  They tell you exactly what you need to do and how to do it.  Cannot be much simpler.

Good luck and look forward to hearing you have your licence Big Smile

    Joey, forgot to ask.

What training did you do with them?  Do you mind if I ask how much it cost?  Did you use your own scoot?

    Thanks

    Hey Scott,

I did the scooter training with them (I'm pretty sure it's just called that).  It was $48/hr and they take you through how to use the scoot, cornering, slow riding, emergency braking, avoiding obstacles, and then figure 8's and U-turns.  Actually sounds a lot like Q-ride!

You could probably use your own scoot, I'm not sure though.  I was on a bug vibe of their's when I did it.

Looking forward to Q-ride, and thanks for the tips so far from everyone!

I was in Mount Isa when I did mine, some dudes from Townsville came out.  WE all performed on our own bikes, and I was the only scooter there!

I cant recal the cost, but was around teh $200ish mark, and was a full day training.  Went thru everything from theory to practical.

    Great instructors, loved it.

Does this scooter make my bum look fast?

The best approach to take with your license is to attack it with the intent of mastering every task or discipline they teach you, not passing or failing. That way when you have mastered each technique you will be well and truly competent and in possession of a license. Really you want the techniques to be second nature.

    Re: Q-ride hints/tips

Thanks for all the tips - I am now an offically licenced scooter rider!  The course was very similar to the scooter training I had previously done with M&W, and I'm really glad that I had completed the training before.  Doing it all today, I was much more confident, and I have no doubt that everyone would benefit from some official scooter training.

Now all I have to do is head over to Qld transport tomorrow, and then take the Daelim out for its first spin!

    Thanks for the congrats everyone..

And Brendon: no, not even once!!  Well, not on my Daelim...  Hmm I've surprised myself at that a bit, but yes, it hasn't done one more metre after D'Arcy dropped it off!

And I wanted to go for a ride this afternoon, but a thunderstorm has just come over, and I'm busy all weekend.

Have to wait unil Monday now!

     Congrats on getting your license.

When I had the Honda delivered and was not booked in for my test for another week I took it out around the block and down to a deserted car park to practice before I rode it up the M1 for my test. Bad I know, but they didn't hire scoots (had trouble finding any where that would even do the test)so you had to bring your own and I had no other way of getting it there!

    Enjoy your new ride.Big Smile
