    Full scooter license?

    Hi Guys,

I've read all the posts I can related to scooter licensing, I just wanted to clarify what happens after I've completed my three months learners on a scooter.  Apparently you take another test after the three months to gain your full license, is that correct?  I don't HAVE to take a motorbike test do I?  I'm not really interested in riding a motorbike, just a scoot, but some people's comments have me confused whether it's actually possible to only hold a full scooter license?

    Cheers!

    Depends on your state.

For me in Qld, it went like this. for me nd my 50cc Jog

Because I did not have a car licence, I had to get that, and then get my motorbike licence (stupid I know).  Once I got my L's on my scooter, I then went and did QRide training, then I went straight onto my P's, and now I am open RE.  because I did the QRide there was no testing involved apart from the written tests I had to do to gain my L's.

Does this scooter make my bum look fast?

Sorry should have clarified: I'm based in Melbourne, VIC and already have a full car license.  :)

    Re: Full scooter license?

Hey! I'm in Melb too and I'm on my Ls.

I'm going to do my full license test on the 22/08 - woohoo.

I'm doing it at HART in Kilsyth and they have scooters available - so I'll be using one of them.

Apparently - so my bloke says - the test is mainly checking you can do emergency stops (better than for the Ls test) and that you can swerve to avoid things and they teach you counter steering too.

My test is costing me $230 and goes for 6 hours in one day.

I'm booked in for my L's on the weekend of 9th/10th August in Hoppers Crossing (through Stay Upright).

So your full license is for your full scooter license, yeeees?  Not a motorbike license?  I just wasn't sure if there was a bunch of red tape i'd have to sort out to go from my L's onto my full scoot license, or if it was a simple matter of "after three months, you go for your full's and that's it"

    Re: Full scooter license?

I know its seems a bit nuts chatting over so many different topics - but oh well!

Heres everything I did - I already had my full car license when I did my Ls test on a scooter.

That was a year ago - so now I have to get my full bike license before mid Sept or I have to go all through the Ls process again.

By 'bike' I mean scooter or motorcycle. My bloke and I got our Ls together - me on a scooter and him on a bike.

The license for a bike or a scooter is actually the same. The license you end up with gives you a license to ride either a scooter or a bike.

This urks up some bike riders as many people do the test on a scooter and then get themselves killed when they get a bike and have had no training or testing on it.

I think its kinda dumb myself - I mean geez! You'd at least wanna have a few lessons on how to ride it safely.

I mean lets face it, gears and clutch are fiddly and when your life depends on them..... plus my left hand is weak as. I hated learning on a bike - my hand went numb and so I switched to a scooter.

And yes - after 3 months and one day you can go for the full license test.

    Hope that made sense.

Oooooh.... Yes that does make sense.  I was confused in thinking a scooter license was different to a motorbike license!

Well done Bruce. Have you thought of further training? It's well worth the time & effort if you take the information away with you & incorporate it into your riding.
