In anyone importing the Chinese made Honda Joker Clone into Australia? It's a great looking classic 125cc scooter with Harley Style Handle bars, similar to the Aprilia Mojito. I know they are being manufactured in China and sold in most Asian countries, the USA and New Zealand, but not in Australia. I think this would be a great seller in Australia and love to buy one if they were imported.

would be a great scooter but no not in Australia. Have seen a couple of private imports that have been from people bringing them back from Japan

so they do exist but only privately

More than one importer has tried to get a variant of this through ADR for quite some time but it never passed.

Yup, and having seen one in the flesh I can fully understand why it hasn't!!  

Typically Chinese designs are produced by more than one factory,  but the stories I read about one of these Honda Joker clones on an American forum was literally horrifying.  In one reported case, the customer got less than a mile down the road on his brand new scoot before the engine literally blew up,  he then waited 6 weeks for "his dealer or distributor"  to replace the engine.  That forum was extremely active with numerous horror stories.

It's that sort of horror story that makes me stick to brand names with adequate support and spare parts back-up from the manufacturer / distributor and dealers for any big ticket item.

 Why was it the build quality or simply the aesthetics? I guess the 'quality' would be similar to other Chinese made scooters on the road in Australia. Cheers

Didn't even make it onto the road here, nothing to do with Aesthetics it failed on dynamics like the brake & noise tests from memory. Important stuff.

 That's too bad, I'd love to see these scooters in the shops and on the roads, here in Australia. Seems these scooters are OK for the roads in the UK, US and NZ. just not Australia, I hope someone from Oz (maybe a dealer?) will work with the Chinese suppliers to get these scooters up to Australia's superior world standards soon.

 Yes, the Aprilia Mojito is a nice clone of the 'Honda Joker', which I'm sure is a clone of an earlier Vespa or Lambretta. I look forward to buying one of the $8000 dollar scooters, when I win tattslotto, in the mean time, a cheaper option would be nice.

Stick with the Aprilia or Honda (if you can get it) . BTW the Aprilia is under 6 grand in Oz

The cheaper option isn't nice, its nasty!

 And cheap is all relative.  If you have to chuck out a $3k scooter after a year, then the 6k one only has to last two to be better value.

And like Brendon, we don't even sell the Mojito, or the Joker either!!
