    AGATT vs That's Gotta Hurt

A guy by the name of Frankenscoot from another forum had a prang a while back, & OUCH! the pics hurt.

I'll paste in his words of his account of what happened.  It's in the USA, & I guess you'd know the safety requirements are different over there.  I thought it appropriate to post this in the Rider Development Area as it's something anyone needs to think about before heading out onto the roads.

    Frankenscoot's words in italics.

AND wear your damn gear! Helmet, gloves, boots and jacket! Unless you want this:

It was around 6 monthes or so ago. I was doing 55mph in a 55mph zone. I was approching a red light so I was slowing down. As I was a mini van pulled in front of me and slammed their brakes. I did the same because there were cars all around so I had nowhere to swerve out of the way to. I locked the front brake up which cause my rear to swing out from under me. Around this time the van sped up because the light turned green, so I didn't rear end the van. I did however do a 45 mph slid on the hot unforgiving asphalt for around 15-20 feet wearing no gloves, no helmet and no jacket. It was near 100 degrees out and I was riding around in a tank top, camo pants and my trusty Doc Martens. I spent 4 weeks out of work and it took roughly 8 weeks to full heal my hands back up. Nowadays I wear full gear even if i'm only riding a couple blocks up the road.

OUCH! Thanks for posting the story & pictures. I feel like hurling but sometimes we all need a gentle reminder not to become complacent!

Painfully truthful, Rob.   My biggest point is his HANDS!!!!!! I've seen some trendy scooterists getting round in open faces, sneekers, shorts skirts and tights etc but NO DAMN  GLOVES!!!!!  HELMETS are just one of those things that's part fo the law anyway but you'd be stupid to consider riding without one regardless.  BUT Have a look at crash pictures where motorcyclists (partuclurly racers and motorcrossers etc) are involved and a great percentage of them you'd see the rider in the air or almost there putting their hands out or forward to land or cushion the impact and just be thankful they got gloves on. Check out June Issue of Australian Dirt Bike!!!! for 10 best crashes of the year or something. There's riders with their hands where? Safely tucked in their pockets. NOT!!!!

First contact with the ground 9 times out of ten will be your hands.  So if nothing else people please wear GLOVES!!!!  I never ride anything with 2 wheels (with any intent of course, racing, general riding etc) without gloves and that's MTBs, BMX, friend's wife.......... 's bike.  I'll shout anyone a beer or a wine if ever I'm seen riding any distance without gloves.

In my ealry days of scootering life.....living on the coast etc.......I've ridden the scoot "not wearing much".

Sometimes it's a hard call......"Ah just a few K's to the beach or shops."  "I'll ride carefully" etc etc.

Helmet +  whatever: the choice is yours what extras your wear.  I find those pics gruesome.   I sometimes ride about the paddock with no helmet etc.....my stupid ass fault if I hurt myself.

I couldn't agree more, I've had few "off's" over the years (I've been riding for over 30 years) and in every instance my helmet copped a major scrape and my gloves were badly damaged. If I'd not been wearing gloves my hands would have looked like those pics.

I've had minor scrapes to the rest of my body, but I usually wear long trousers and a jacket, I say usually because I admit I don't always on a hot summer day when just going down to the local shops, BUT I always wear a helmet and gloves.

You might catch me without a jacket on hot days but never without gloves & this is why. Body grazes hurt but not being able to tend to yourself is the worst bit. What the pictures don't show is the inconvenience & humiliation of not being able to use your hands. Try wiping your I mean use toilet paper with hands like that.

Thanks a lot, Rob!!! I now have very sore ribs and can hardly breathe.  Just picturing someones rearend(huge moon) reversing up to a poor little fluffy dog. And it's probably got those sad looking eyes, saying "Not this again...."

Now to spare the poor little dog...try this....(BRENDON!!! YOU STOP ROLLING YOUR EYES ALREADY!!!)  Use the bidet like normal or something that squirts your holy parts then string a large towel or any form or cloth material between two poles (or frenchies or maybe a nice leggy pair of russian lasses) then swing a leg over straddling the towel and then proceed to transfer you weight forwards and backwards along the towel.

Perfect practice for riding your scoot under difficult circumstances especially after a nearmiss or close call accident and you're riding home with messy daks!!!

Daks?  DAKS??? Dak's?? Dak's whats? Dak's Orange Docs!!!!

Someone will end up with a Orange Doc in their butt soon... That will explain that pic as well
