    Cage drivers and fuel prices.....

it was interesting to read this afternoon that after a recent survey, QLD drivers would consider alternatives to their cars if petrol prices hit $1.75 per litre, while in NSW some would wait until it gets to $2.25 per litre before leaving the cars at home......

"Meanwhile, the survey showed about 37 per cent of motorists in Queensland, Victoria and NSW were happy to pay current prices because they liked their cars so much."

Re: Cage drivers and fuel prices.....

I have not long returned form Sydney and was paying $1.61 per litre for Shell Premium for my car that I leave down there for my sister to use. I have no option as it's European and has a engine that requires the higher grade fuel.
After filling up the scoots using loose change it came as a shock to fill a 60 litre tank, I was glad to get home to my beloved scoots.

    Cheers:)

I reckon that there are less cars on the road. But that could just be a bleep after a price hike. When I look at car after car go by with one person in it I am struck by the ineffeciency of getting over a ton of steel up to speed just for one commuter. I have had a lot of people asking me about the scooter lately.{ at least 3 a day}. I have a dream that one day petrol will be so expensive that the streets will be filled with scooters.

I spoke to my sister in Sydney yesterday and she said fuel was around $1.70 for premium. She told me its costs about $25.00 now for about a quarter of a tank for my car.

I had to chuckle at the petrol station today. It was one of those where you have to pay before putting petrol in your car. I couldn't contain the chuckle as I asked for $8 of premium infront of perhaps 10 car drivers.

I have to admit though that I've been trying to avoid putting petrol into my own car despite having used it several times this week. I just can't bring myself to do it.

Went pass the BP today and decided to practice filling the little tank. Cost me 3.50 Big Smile For a moment I thought the meter was malfunctioning, it hardly moved!

Well I had to fill the Land Rover Discovery Tdi on the weekend.  $160 and an arm later (thats what I say when I walk in to pay, "which arm do you want today?"), I had a full truck.  Lucky that is good for 900km and I only do it every 6 weeks or so.  FYI diesel in country victoria is $1.849 per litre

I come back a few minutes later to fill the scooter up (only fill it every 4 weeks or so, depending on how much weekend riding I do) and it was a big 8 bucks.  All paid in shrapnel from last nights effort at the pub and I am away.  Walking back to the scooter I get asked all kinds of questions from very [now] poor motorists.

The bike costs $22 per week to run in fuel.  I just use the cheap 95RON E10 fuel in it, as it works fine and is only used to blast down the highway anyway.

Give me my scooter anyday, way more fun than a bike or a car.  Going to get takeaway on the scooter at night on my favourite bit of road is priceless (and cheap).

yes that is why i sold the car. it would have taken over $60.00 to fill the car tank. it takes 98RON.

now it cost less than $20.00 to fill either scooter tank.

just did a run down to dwellingup, 246km, used 8.32l of fuel. the fuel economy figures are: 82 mpg or 3.37l/100km.

i don't think i could get that out of a car and have so much fun.

that was on the 500cc scooter, i am still work out the fuel economy of the 250cc at the moment. the fuel gauge hasn't moved yet.

I noticed a drop in traffic yesterday afternoon, about a third less cars on the road and carparks, I thought school holidays were here early, isn't that next week? This morning was a little better than usual as well, say 10% less, am seeing more bikes though.

I have been living in Taiwan for five years, and when I first came here, your dream was my reality (not the petrol prices, but most people on scooters!). Unfortunately, as more people have become wealthier, the status symbol is to have a car and there has been a significant increase in the number of cars. There used to be families of four on one scooter (not the safest, I know!), but now there's one person in a car. When will they realise they were doing the right thing before? Maybe it does need higher petrol prices?
No one ever said on their deathbed that they wished they'd spent more time at the office.

HI Apex, my parents lived in Taiwan about 12 years ago, and it was scooter heaven back then, even my mum bought a scoot, but within 2 weeks crashed it and sold it and was back on the bus..(that it only had like 10 seats and the rest of it was standing room. I was told that the busier the bus route was, the more seats they removed. I wouldn't be surprised now if bus 'seats' now were just a bedtime story over there..) Stick out tongue

Only a few more weeks till I'll be loving my Agility again. Just hope it still loves me...

Anyone else think there's a link between road rage aimed at two wheelers & fuel prices? This week in particular is proving to be really bad as far as aggression aimed at the scooter & rider is concerned.

Yep, most definately.  Doesn't take much to trip the nobs: full moon, sudden warm weather, drought, rain, Friday arvos, last day before LWE, Monday mornings, etc etc.   Stick out tongue
