Welcome aboard, Scoot-azz.
Did you get that bike for the track you spoke of?
I hope the the regulars will chip-in with a few tips, even if they conflict.
Some have saved their bikes from a low-speed "lose" on those tight slow bits by sticking their foot out, but the bitumen does bite, & we don't have plates on our soles like the motard guys. I prefer to "stay with the bike", try to get a feel for when it's gonna step out or twitch, steer / "correct" out of the "moment".
It's a bit of initial outlay, but buy, beg or borrow all the safety gear you can afford, including a back protector. Ya just never know when you need it on the roads. Better to give Craig (Fuji) Allick a call if you're not sure on what's allowed for a Track Night as it's not racing. It's better to have motorbike or m.bike racer: gloves, boots, jacket, pants (or 1-piece), f/f helmet, & back protector
Spend a good few laps scrubbing & heating the tyres. Keep off the dirt (if poss) after a session. Keep off the grass & kerbs (if poss) during sessions.
Might be better to stick with someone with similar tyres to gauge your conering. If you've bog tyres on then it'd be dodgy thinking you can corner like Craig K-Star with his beloved Savas.
Build-up your cornering in well-rehearsed increments.
Your bike is "new out there" things like tyres & suspension have not been sorted.
Don't change your line if you think someone wants to pass you. I found it (& still do) quite hard to concentrate on my path ahead if there's someone faster, spooking me. Be predictable & consistent.
Better to talk to the guys if you've got any probs or questions.
Don't forget to remove the stands & mirrors.
Don't feel at a dis-advantage if your bike is "slow". Craig & I did the Le-Minz 24-Hour on Scooter HQ's LA Class VMoto Matrix......& we raced it! Going a bit "slow" on LA class bikes gives you a chance to set-up for corners, & to think through everything. It's amazing what you can get them to do.
It's awfully good fun ! ......You'll need sleeping pills for when you get home
You'll be revving away in ya head !
