National Scooter Rally 2009 - January long Weekend.

OK, I know we have to get thru winter and Christmas, but Jase and I are heading to Tasmania for the Austalia Day long weekend with our scooters next year for the short even, and I was thinking if we get a few more people together, perhaps we can go as 'scooter community' group. I think it would be awesome fun.

Anyone up for it? Steve, Brendon, I know you may geographically challenged, but I'm sure you'd get your hands on a scooter from Cam in Launceston, or somewhere and fly down???? Anyone?

Hey Dozer, that sounds like fun actually, but still a it too far to make any committments. Would be pretty close for me to just jump on the spirit to Launceston. Keep us in the loop and let us know closer to time, but yes it sounds like lots of fun and would love to go if work, family, etc permits.

OK mate, sounds like you're keen, and I understand that its a while off. If we get a group together, it'll be a hoot.

Yeap, the wife and I are going, should be fun! Check out the real report on the 2008 Scooter Rally.  I am even riding the R50X for even more fun.

Don't think about it too long, rumor has it that the 2009 rally is going to be very popular and as such the primary accommodation will be snapped up quickly!

The spirit goes to Devonport... there's a lot of highway driving between there and anywhere resembling civilisation! Stick out tongue

Looks like more of a National Vespa Rally to be honest!

It is only because they are passionate about their rides.  It can be anything you want.  Next year, I wan't a big contingent of twist and go scooters to show that we are a force to be reckon with :-)

It is a collective event all about scooters.

Mmmmm, getting excited.  Go the ScooterCommunity crew!

Oh yeah...nearly forgot that it goes to Devonport. Has always driven from Devonport to Launceston so it never seem to be that far, plus there are so many cheese factory, jam, chocolate, biscuit, etc factories in between that you can visit to break up the trip.

I was just wondering if there was a website with all the necessary information? I'm determined to go next year & would like to get the ball rolling booking accomodation, transport of the scooter etc. Actually, if there was any chance of meeting a group in either Melbourne or where the boat lands in Tassie that would be good too. Cool

An event website is in preparation at the moment to help attendees out.  Information on where, when and how much will appear on scootersales.com.au shortly as everything is in final stages of organisation (well main things are anyway).

Re: National Scooter Rally 2009 - January long Weekend.

Greetings, this is my first post on here so I hope it works OK!

I am part of the organising committee, and it was my suggestion that the 2009 rally be held at Bicheno in Tassie. I've ridden there many times and knew it would make a lovely place for a rally.

I also rode 3600kms return to go to last year's rally at Port Macquarie. Actually, I think there were more Lambrettas than Vespas there, due to the proximity to both Brisbane and Sydney where there is much enthusiasm for that particular marque. For 2009 I would expect a greater range of scooter brands to attend. So far we have a rideout, evening function, show & shine competition organised. We are in the process of organising a few other activities too, and I hope any interstate attendees will take the opportunity to tour a bit around our lovely island.

If anyone wants to help in a practical sense, please scoot across to the Yahoo group: http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/NATIONALSCOOTERRALLY/?yguid=149520485 We also have links to the Spirit of Tasmania Ferry, and the caravan park accommodation, on the home page. Soon, the proper website for National Rallies will be up and running.

About me - I run the Hobart Motor Scooter Club, which is open to ALL scooters, and even postie bikes. All you have to do is turn up at Salamanca Square on the second Sunday of the month, at 10.30am, and decide whether you want to join or not. I generally organise a ride, not TOO far, so suitable for learners, to somewhere nice for lunch.

No offense, but I've tried like some others here and were'nt particularly welcomed, They are all mad lambretta and vespa enthusiasts who call the rest of us by the nickname of a cheese flavored snack. They are the ones who took over, and they are the ones who cause the division.

I'm keeping my money in my pocket, for the 2009 scooter muster thats is going to be about 10 times the size.

Angry I ride a Vespa, but its a 'twistie' so I'm not welcome.

Thanks for the welcome, Scooter HQ.

Dozer, that's never been my attitude, any Vespa is good in my opinion, it's a Vespa after all. I know what you mean though. I do admit that my own tastes do not include the larger maxi-scooters - but then, I dislike larger motorbikes in general, especially Honda Goldwing trikes with trailers (honestly, just get a car!). Having said that, the people who ride them are usually OK. I hosted 3 riders and their scooters over New Year here in Hobart - 2 Burgmans (huuge!) and a Bolwell Le Grande.

I'm interested in hearing more about this scooter muster! Where's it going to be? I'm glad to see something else being organised by scooter riders. The National Rally is more of a English traditional style scooter rally such as has been held in the UK since the 70s, but I'm open to other gatherings with like-minded scooter riders. Have to say, I don't think I'll be involved in organising next year's National Rally - it often is a thankless job, and people can be too quick to take personal offence if their suggestions are not taken up. Life's too short for "bad vibes".
