    Scooter Racing NSW

An opportunity has come up where we can have some racing in NSW with the same promoter that is doing the up coming Moto Mayhem.

For the event he has had a poor turn out so far for Oran Park and thinks this is mainly due to the fact that you need a national licence to begin with.

So hes thinking he may not get a lot of scooters at the event.

So the next question is that scooter racing could take place at both eastern creek as well as newcastle on an organised basis. So this post is to get some type feedback to see if many of the public would get into it. There is currently a few dealers waiting for the nod to get started but we would like around 20 scooters in total to be apart of it.

I know a few sydney siders have been waiting for the chance to race like the SE QLD guys who have had all the fun up until now.

Gee it might even mean that others from other states would like to take part as well.

I will start doing the ring around and keep everybody up to date. Costs would be a licence up front which is an expensive 1 up cost. But after that entry fee would be around 80 - 100 bucks and you cant ask for cheaper racing then that........

Do you know what the cost for this licence is? Is this a national licence that has a annual renewal cost? I am (and probably others) trying to work out if I can get my act together and do this sort of thing. Part of that is working out my initial outlay for licence, leathers, helmet and maybe appropriate scooter.

For a Senior National Annual License in Victoria it is $265.  The NSW websites are broke, but should be the same.  I will get on the dog and bone and clarify the Motorcycling Australia today.  From my understanding, you register for a national license under your state body.

We found to organise the racing as a stand alone event was very expensive & priced quite a few potential riders out once you included some safety gear & scoot mods. That's why we linked up with a Club like the sporties. A Club can issue a day racing licence for around $45.00 it just helps spread the cost over a longer period.

..pity about the high cost of the national licence, then add the entry fee`s.

in sydney for cheap as you can drag race at eastern creek, think it`s about $45 for three passes and i`m pretty sure you don`t need a national licence, just a roadworthy car and helmet.

be great if  you could do scooter track events under a similar scheme..

Yeah, That's what I was going to say.  I only chose the option of the day licences for the 3 rounds we raced up here, much cheaper option for the interim until it becomes more clear about the prospects of future racing.

Also, you need to be a member of a club anyway to race under MQ/MA.  We all had to do it for the 6hour Could we be heading for a State of Origin Race Mini-series???

I meant a Motorcycle Racing or Sports club as such. ie Motorcycle Sportsmen of QLD, SBL etc etc. Also I think (correct me if I'm wrong) but a club to be official and legal etc it needs to have an infrastructure consisting of a president, treasurer, secretary etc etc. There's probably more to it than that but that's the basic idea.

The interstate series sounds great and i would make the effort to attend but the stumbling block is the licence $265 is the price and with no set calender of events this makes it hard to spend the money up front,I was all set to go to moto mayhem when i found out about the national licence, then got the forms filled them out and MARK sent through and email saying it was scaled back to a demo event, this made a demo event very expensive.

This may take time to get going unless some fixed dates can be posted and the issue of day licences is resolved, Mark also spoke of three events one also at COFFS HARBOUR international kart track this is a great track that is perfect for scoots and close for QLD entrants.

Lets hope it gets going and count me in, I would pay for the licence if the events were posted with plenty of notice and it fits in with local event as running the maximum amount of races and practice on the licence in a twelve month period makes it a viable expence. I have spent more than $265 on day licences in the last two years and with the racing being fragmented it has been the best option to date.
