250cc Automatic to Unrestricted Automatic in WA?

I was just wondering what the go is with upgrading my license from a 250cc automatic to unrestricted, or whatever the next stage is, automatic? It looks like I'll have to wait until late next year to sit it, as the DPI site says you need to hold a 250cc for a year. Is this still true for an automatic license?

The one year period is true. I would like to know about the rest as well. Will reach 1 year end of this month and am weighing my options.

OK.. RE-A to RE is the same as RE to R. 1 year of racking up the frequent flyer miles (and gaining experience) before you can upgrade after which you have to re-do the L permit & re-do the test. I'm going from RE-A to RE, although the woman behind the counter at the licensing centre was insistant that I could only go for R or R-A from RE-A, but as always it all depends on what you turn up to the test on.

I was recently told that it's possible to go for RE and then turn up to the R test on an automatic but still obtain the R license! How cool is that. Smile

Atleast if you do that you'll have options. You'll also be able to borrow the instructor's bike, which I guess is partly why you've made the decision? Of course if you did want to go for RE-A Steve@Ace has a scheme in place that you should talk with him about. Wink

I'm getting good at this shameless plug thing. Big Smile

exactly right. and yes, thats my main reason for the decision. I get to use the instructors bike, which i know( Trevor's bike) and, like you said, i then have wider options. I gotta do it soon before i forget how to do gear changing and clutch operation. Then i can get a lg 200 Big Smile

got my R-E tomorrow, forecast is nasty, showers and rain, the two combination of things you don't really want when riding. I can handle one, but not the two together.. *sigh*. Fingers crossed.

You'll be fine. Just keep in mind all you've learnt riding the LX. Good luck James!

too much work! not enough play!

I'll probably be opening another bottle a little later on hehehehe, after all, who honestly does much work on a Friday anyway!?

Roll on the Sunday ride! (showers expected though!)

As for the LG, I don't see why Keith can't look at it asap, he seemed to have a bunch of people helping out today :)
