    My Bug Agility

Well I have had the Agility for 6 months but really on ridden it over the last 3, covering 2800km in the dry, wet, windy, heat but not yet the cold (not that it gets cold here in Brisbane).

I won't bore you with the technical specs as they are available on the Bug site but it is a 125cc with 12" wheels.

The main reasons I bought the Agility was the price ($2490 plus on roads but now $2590) and the 4 year warranty.  Both appealed to me and I would have to say, for the first time ever, I did not really try any others out.  Research was on-line with a friend having a Vibe and being very happy with it.

Now for me and the scoot.

Firstly, the seat height is great for me.  I am a bit over 6 foot (186cm) and I comfortably put my feet down when stopped without "crouching" at all.  My wife though, who is 158cm, has some issues with touching the ground but she is not a rider (yet) and it may have just been her technique.

There is plenty of legroom, knees only ocassionally touching the key and only touching the handle bars when doing very tight turns.  Normal riding is great.

Seat is very comfy - I do a 56km round trip to work and back and there is no "numb bum" issues.  Mirrors are also good size and well positioned.

Under the seat there is plenty of room for a full face helmet, I wear a large, and it fits no problem with some space still left for rain gear.  The fuel filler is also under the seat so it is hidden away under lock and key.  It comes with a small rear rack which accomodates a top box no problem at all.

Performance is great.  I can sit on 80-90km/hr no issues at all.  Haven't maxed it out yet but downhill it does get a little unstable over 90 with the usual slight shudder due to it being fairly light in weight and the smallish wheels.  Large hills do bring you back to 60 but it feels strong all the way up to 80 and it gets there pretty quickly.

Throttle is very responsive, getting you moving pretty rapidly from the lights ahead of most.  Brakes also do their job very well although the rears are drums and perform accordingly - they slow you down.  This is not really a bad thing as the last thing I want is for the rear to be locking up.

Economy is good although the tank could be a little bigger.  I think it is about 4.5 litre so filling it is a cheap experience but it does limit range a little.  I have been getting around 140km out of a tank.

It is not too bad in the wind, weighing around the 100kg mark.  It is a rather narrow scoot which reduces the protection a little but does give you much more confidence in squeezing through the cages at the lights.  It is Agility by name and also by nature with cornering a pleasure, very easy to change direction, at low or high speeds.

Some negatives are the fuel gauge.  The dealer and the service staff have indicated to me that there is an issue with the shape of the tank which does effect the operation of the guage.  It does not seem to move for the first 100km or so and then starts to reflect what is going on.  Not really a problem if you are like me and seem to be able to keep track of the km when you last filled it up.  Or you just remember that once it moves, you need to be thinking about putting a little more juice in.

Another is the headlight.  It works ok but seems a little dull.  The specs say only 30w/35w so it is not going to blind any body.

Small issue I have when filling the tank. The seat lifts forward and does have some issues with staying up and wants to slam down on the nozzle and you.  It may be because my top box moves the balance to the rear when on the centre stand but still, it is a bit of a pain.

Another issue is the service intervals.  I am getting my 2500km service on Monday and i think they recommend servicing every 2000 or 2500km which is not much when you take into account that I do around 300km per week.  I may need to discuss this with the dealer to see when it really NEEDS to be serviced.

Last small issue is the speedo.  It seems to be with them all.  It reads about 10% over what it really is.  Now I am sure that means that they would not pass ADR but it is not a bad thing when it comes to happy snaps from the boys in blue.  It is only really an issue when trying to keep up with traffic while not wanting to go over the limit by too much but you do get used to it.

Overall I think the Agility is a great scoot with plenty of room, plenty of power and only a few minor issues, nothing that would stop me from buying it again.  With the new model out (mine is a 2006 manufacture), I am not sure what enhancements have been made apart from the small cosmetic changes.

There are a couple of other scoots on the market that can reach a better top speed but in reality, it is a 125 so if you need to sit on 100km/hr often, you really need a bigger scoot, both in size and capacity.

So, the bottom line is yes, buy one as you will not be disappointed but I have to admit that I have not ridden the competition so am a little biased.  In saying that though, it IS a damn good scoot Big Smile

    Thanks

    Scott

Hear! Hear! And so say all of us!!! (Agility riders that is...)

The key position is my only real gripe with the general build/design of the scoot.

    Scott:

Small issue I have when filling the tank. The seat lifts forward and does have some issues with staying up and wants to slam down on the nozzle and you.  It may be because my top box moves the balance to the rear when on the centre stand but still, it is a bit of a pain.

I put my helmet down on the foot board when refueling, keeps the weight forward a little more.  Also not locking the handlebars and keeping them square on allows the seat more room to stay up but don't know if that would offset the weight of a top box especially with gear.

I've had the Agility on the track a few times and she has impressed me greatly so I like to imagine what a set of sticky rubbers would do.  But she's a nice, simple machine for it. Not overloaded with bodywork and comparments and the like and shes a dream to paint yourself. Sweet!

    Nice write up, Scott!!

Thanks K-Star, I usually lock the handlebars and put the helmet on the mirror but will try it your way.

Appreciate the help and feedback Smile

To tell you the truth, I've never heard anyone bag the Agility. I know people rave about the reliability also. I have ridden one only once, it have 12,000kms on it, and it felt nearly new. Backed with 4 year warranty, its a no brainer that its a top scooter.

Just thought I would update on the headlight issue.

Had a service and mentioned if there was something they could do but they said they would have a look.

Did not say a thing when I picked it up so I just put it down to being too hard.

On the weekend I was looking at K-Star's Agility and then mine and realised that the bulb had been changed.  They had put a longer halogen bulb in there, taking out the round one.

It now works a real treat and I am more than happy.

    Something simple fixed!

I noticed the specs of this scooter list the fuel as 6.4litre. Do you have the 08 model?

No mine is the 06 model.

Specs are either 6.4 or 6.8L (cannot remember exactly) but you try getting that much in there!!

I ran out one day and I forget how much went in but it definitely was not 6L.

A regular tank for me is 140 to 150 km and between 3.7 to 4.0L.

I am averaging around the 35-36km/litre at the moment after 8400km.

I think when I wrote the original review I did not have the spec on hand and was "guessing" Hmm

Thanks for a wide ranging review Scott.

Due to your height/weight as rider, I'm not surprised about 80-90km/hr being the "real-world" high speed.

I'm shorter (5'5'') + about 68kgs.   So, getting to 95km/hr is usually easy, except if there are strong winds.

Strong winds don't push the Agility out of it's lane,  but they knock the speed down, at worst to 80km/hr tops. Sudden strong gusts are most annoying - sudden pullback.

Overall though,  the Agility  is designed as about the best handling scoot, wonderful changing course and dodging traffic. Some scoots do better on stability, but fall short on handling (compared with the Agility).

******   I've ridden my Agility 13 months, 8200kms, from 0-100kmh on every type of road around Perth, WA.  *******

    Hi 07Agility.

I cannot give you an answer to this as they replaced it at service.  Did not even say they had but they definitely put in a Halogen bulb.

Still not one of the most powerful headlinghts on the market, that is for sure, but not too bad.

    Re: My Bug Agility

I caught the scooter bug while living in Bali for a year - up there I had a much loved Yamaha "Mio Soul" which took me everywhere while my husband was at work with our car. We returned to Brisbane a couple of weeks ago and after some research - and sadness that Yamaha didn't really offer a realistic option to my Mio, certainly not at a realistic price - I've purchased a Bug Agility 125. My love affair with scooters starts afresh.

My question for more experienced owners - the scooter's manual lists recommended fuel type as Nonleaded gasoline92#. In Australian terms does that correspond to the 91, 95, or 98 octane?

I do not want to cook it on hot fuel, or moan about how much more powerful my Mio was if I use the low octane option in the Agility.

     Any thoughts? MM

91 as a minumum, the higher octane fuels won't hurt it. There is quite a bit of debate on whether the higher octane stuff works on 4 stroke Carburetted engines. It does on Fuel Injected engines, I run all my 4 strokes on the better stuff. It's about 40c extra on a fill & apparently I'm saving the world by doing it.
