    Kermets request

Not my thoughts but Someone said Talking about the enviroment is like pissing in a wet suit, it gives you a nice warm fuzzy feeling but no one really notices, there were no posts here so I thought I would start it off, personally I would prefer this area renamed to posts to admin or letters to the boss or suggestions box, beefs about the site, requests, anything really and just generally to be able to getting in touch with the Admin here, I looked around but couldn't find a link anywhere to get in touch with the establishment, does this sound Ok? would the members prefer this?

    Re: Kermets request

Hi Flash,  I've been thinking about a post here for sometime.

Well, there's the hybrid MP3 scoot which has a traditional engine plus regenerative motor for coasting, working pretty much the same way as a Prius afaik.  Then there's all those electric scoots out on the market these days......I've been wondering about these : thinking about the day someone puts one of these out on the track :)

There's this article in the Courier Mail about Brissy's high temps http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,22692239-3102,00.html

& another article about traffic congestion at a particular spot http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,22693060-3102,00.html

Discussing our Government's policies on traffic & environment here.  Lobbying our government.  "Think local act global" is a phrase I've heard somehwere.

With people like Dr Karl Kruszelnicki to stand as a Climate Change Coalition candidate http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/dr-karl-to-run-for-nsw-senate/2007/09/27/1190486439869.html .  He recently described the concept of clean coal for our power stations as being something equal to Nazi propoganda.

A scientist; Dr Karl in our Government then I'm sure that our world would have a shake-up for the better.  Heavily subsidised scooters for the population: affordable transport for all.  Subsidised hybrid "clean scooter & car" research.  Solar panels everywhere etc etc.  To think that in Qld & some other states your vehicle is never tested for pollution let alone safety.  Vehicles should be taxed (rego) according the impact their having on our world.....so those stinky shitboxes out there would disapear overnight, & scoots should be getting lower rego.

My Foulcan weighs over 2 tonnes, has a 4-litre engine : the rego for this is about 6 - 700 Dollars, yet my scoot weighs 80kg's yet the rego is over $200.  I don't see much encouragement in using a scoot.

I was surprised to find that my Vmoto Monaco 2-stroke has a catyliser....didn't know these things could be applied to 2-strokes, thinking that "smoke" & "2-stroke" go together.

What can we do about the about the environment?  Remind "the powers that be" that we ride scoots, don't take up much car parking space & use less fuel etc etc.  Anytime an article comes up like that TWAT wrote in the SMH about his fears of Sydney becoming another Bangkok (or where-ever) because of stinking, ageing, ill-maintained scoots, reply & protest.  I replied to SMH exactly the same as I wrote it here except I didn't call article crap I called it something that gets filtered out here that starts with S & ends in T !   :)

    Cordially,

    Rob

    Re: Kermets request

I'm going to be short and a little simplistic but there are two things that stand out to me.

One is that there is only a finite amount of fossil fuel on the planet so we need to be a lot smarter about the way we use it.

The other thing is that we need to be looking a lot more at renewable energy sources. Hybrid stuff is not the complete answer as the electricity is often generated by a gas or coal fired power station.

As I said this is short and simplistic be this is the discussion we all need to have.

Hey Rob - I'm surprised too.  Every Monaco that we've ever sold was a four stroke!

Yeah, I thought Vmoto Monaco's were 4 stroke too :)

On the subject of emissions, a lot of the "better" scoots comply with the very tough "Euro 2" standards for emissions, and even an old design like the Vespa PX200 complies with "Euro 1".

It's my understanding that while Australian ADR emission requirements are reasonably stringent, they are still lower than "Euro 1" standards, and in Australia, unlike most countries that have emission controls we do not have proper annual testing to ensure our vehicles continue to meet emission standards.

    Ahhh...sorry got me wires crossed.  It's a Monza I've got, & that's a 2-stroke with a kattylizer  :)
