Well,
one week and 150 kms into my ownership of the Vespa LX 150 and frankly I am
regretting waiting this long before I took the plunge into scootering.
It
was always one of those things on my ‘life list’ I wanted to do but never got
round to it.
Anyway,
L test passed and I drove round Melbourne to find a Vespa (it simply HAD to be
a Vespa). I finally chose to give Vespa
House in Collingwood my business and picked up my Prugna Plum LX 150 last
Saturday.
The
ride back home was a little scary but I took my time and made it back in one
piece with the adrenaline pumping through my veins.
The
bike itself is a fabulous machine; the classic styling draws attention from
pedestrians and other road users – which can’t be a bad thing, can it? The dash is simple and well laid out. The little engine, although I am still
running it in, is very responsive at take off – if I have the opportunity to
get the front of the lights, I am very quickly at the next set of lights!!!
The
controls are easy to find without looking and the bike is very easy to steer in
tight spots. The brakes are excellent and really do stop you very quickly
indeed – much faster than in my car…
As
for storage, the under seat bucket fits my Nolan helmet perfectly and the Vespa
top box easily swallows everything I need to carry around with me (gym gear
etc)
Fuel
consumption has been good and I understand it will get better as the engine
runs itself in. The gauge dropped below ¼
last night and it cost me all of SEVEN DOLLARS to fill it back up!!
I
rode at night for the first time last night and whilst the headlamp isn’t THAT
bright I was was riding on street light roads so it was OK, I was confident
other road users could see me, too.
All
in all, my Vespa is everything I wanted it to be and more. If you are prepared to pay that bit extra for
your machine it will repay you in spades.
Cheers
Dan
