What a hypocrite I am - I just looked at the blatant advertising at the bottom of my post...

Brendon, as a forum user I would simple regard your sig as declaring your commercial affiliations. I've never seen you "pushing" a brand which may be construed as "taking liberties with the forum".

Getting back on subject, I'm a bit late on the uptake but I see the Queensland (amongst other changes) is adopting LAMS scheme. I reckon this will have noticeable effect on the 250cc plus scooter market. Comments???

I I believe so as well, as the people who were restricted to 250 and under can now ride something larger.  I am loving it.  I still believe though, that there needs to be some form of training at the beginning.  People should not just be hoping onto large capacity scooters (or bikes) with no training or experience at all.
Does this scooter make my bum look fast?

I'd say "lucky bastards!"  In WA I'd still reckon that half the riders that buy scooters bigger than 250cc are those who have come up through the scooter ranks.  And that generally means that a couple of years ago they weren't riding at all.  So the market for bigger scooters is still fairly small, despite the fact that there are often more appropriate scooters in that segment.  I'd be interested to see whether the 250cc limitation that we have here has any affect on the overall safety figures, but I suspect that there will be no statistics to show either way.

    Not yet.

It is a draft document at the moment and the changes are proposed. Once it goes through & is passed as legislation they'll announce what will happen to the 250cc restriction. As it is under a new training system don't automatically assume the under 250cc RE license will go, we haven't seen or heard anything about that yet.

The LAMS scheme is a brilliant idea, I don't think it will have much effect on the 250 class but I do think the bigger stuff & in particular the 300 class will see better numbers. Not many scooter riders up here hold a full unrestricted bike license & the license upgrade has been a deterent to quite a few because hardly any trainers have the bigger scoots. I think just about every scooter qualifies under LAMS.
