Actually their website states learner drivers, not learner riders......loophole???

But I'll ring to confirm before trying it.

.maybe another torch to carry with council??

Under the RTA conditions for Motorcycle Learners Permits, riders are not permitted to ride in Centennial Park......   gawd knows why,  I always thought it was kinda stupid.

I also confirmed the closing time - 8pm.

The light show in the city starts at 8.30 so that'll be good timing.

Hope you all can make it... Party!!!  Drinks

    Heres the reply I got..

    Dear Lindsay,
Thank you for your query regarding learner riders in the ability to be
able to ride within Centennial Park (CP) through CP Info.

The regulations do say learner drivers are prohibited from driving in
    (CP).
The regulations do not prohibit learner riders from riding in CP.
In regards to removing learner plates from motor vehicles this is not a
subject I can help with you should refer that to the Roads and Traffic
    Authority.

If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact
    me on 9339 6615 or email david.caple@cp.nsw.gov.au.

And kiwiscoota is correct...it's on the myrta website...no learner riders in the parks grounds

     hmmmmm

     now that's REALLY interesting...

It'd be a matter of who legally has jurisdiction over the park - and who makes up and enforces the rules. It's like the Harbour Foreshore Trust governing the Rocks and the Art Gallery Rd... nobody really knows where the buck stops.

If you ring the RTA you'll get 6 different answers and 4 different interpretations of the ambiguous regulations.

In Centennial park there is a bicycle track on the same road as the cars... As a cyclist - I think the reason is so learning drivers don't hit cyclists, many of whom are young kids. The police do enter the park, particularly on weekends and book people for speeding etc, but the rangers also have the authority within the park to issue tickets. The law about learners is there for the safety of others, just like road laws are there to help protect us.

So much for the vespa summer. It was fun riding in the rain though.
