Some advice on my first purchase

    Hey everyone,

I'm hoping this will be the first of many posts as I'm about to purchase my first scooter withing the next week or so. So i've spent all today looking at a few options - i'm aiming for a 100 or 125 and preferably 2nd hand. So today I found a few options and I was hoping that you guys could give me your opinion on what sounds best:

    1) Piaggio Zip 100cc - Ex demo $2300 with rego till early next year & 18mths left of manufacturers warranty

     2) Piaggio Zip - Used $2000, 4500kms on the clock, rego till late next year, top box, 2 services (one at 1000kms one at 2000kms) overall in good nick with 3mths dealer warranty

    3) Vmoto 125 - Used $2000, 4000kms on the clock, rego expiring december, 2 prior services, fairly good condition (some brown specs on the exhaust - looks like light corrosion/rust)

Does anyone have any thoughts? any of them sound good or should i keep looking - I hear the piaggios are very reliable after reading a bit on here and i'm aiming for around the $2000 mark as you can tell.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

     Tim

     Tim

    Welcome to Scooter Community.

My pick would be the ex-demo Zip 100,  simply because when buying used, I prefer to go for the lowest mileage possible.

i'm in sydney, does that affect the price much? Is this what these scooters should be going for or could i do better if i keep looking?

Otherwise does anyone have any thoughts about how or where i might grab a 125cc for around $2000? Its probably asking a bit, but might be worth putting it out there. Or at least any particular models that are good around that size/price?

No, I was just thinking of the ex-demos we have up for sale at the moment at Ace. But you're in Syderknee & we're in Perth so... I think Kiwi is on the mark. Go the Zip 100 of those three. Stay well away from the Chinese mainland scooters though. Zip is made in China but in Piaggio's factory to their specs & exacting standards. They have too good a reputation, built up over decades, to allow poor quality scooters to drag the name down.

Scary. I've thought in the past that Steve@Ace should let down the dealer mantle occasionally, but it really takes over.

If you're looking at used,  you might try to find a low milegage Yamaha BeeWee 100.

The BeeWee is a very well built two stroke from a well respected manufacturer and it will outperform a lot of the cheaper 125cc from mainland China.

If I were offered the choice of a BeeWee or a Zip100,  given all things being equal, I'd buy the BeeWee as it has a unique style of it's own.

The Bee Wee being a 2 stroke Yamaha is a heap of fun.  It has individual looks, it has character, and it doesn't mind you being a little rough

    Tim

If you can stretch your budget to buy Pete's Daelim NS125 you would silly to pass it by.

The NS125 is a brilliant scoot built in Korea.

hey guys, thanks so much for the advice. I went out and had a ride on Pete's Daelim this arvo and it rides great. Thanks again Pete (no doubt you'll see this post), you were extremely helpful. It seems to live up to the hype, its just a matter of whether my bank account lives up to it as well :) Thanks again pete, i'll be looking some more over the next few days and keep you posted. Tim
