    Scooter groups in Canberra?

Does anyone know if there are any groups in/around Canberra that don't have a retro/Vespa focus and are happy to meet up for a ride, no matter what the scoot? I'm a newbie and while I have a friend or two that also ride, it might be nice to get out & about with other scoot riders, when they're not available. Some of the searches I've done result in very little info, broken links, or obscure messages to group members, which seem non-sensicle to the uninitiated. I've read about Atomic (hwy capable/Vespas?), the Swarm (webpages missing?) and Scootergals (retro theme)... any other suggestions?

I'm in the same boat, all the weblinks go no where and have no info, it seems the usual Canberra snobbery even extends to scooters - no vespa no club I just brought my second scooter ( less than a week old) and I've started to want to ride more now, so I was looking for a club or ride group.

Happy to create a google group f you know another person who would like to ride.

    Re: Scooter groups in Canberra?

As if knowing I'd put this query up on the forum, I ran into a neighbour (not literally!), he's an older guy who rides an X-Citing. He's a member of Atomic, so I asked him a few questions. He said there are a lot of members with bigger bikes, 250+ but also some with smaller ccs (good for me). They get together first Wed of the month at the Old Canb Inn. So, this coming Wed is their next meeting. He said a group usually meet around 6 to grab a bite, then the mtg starts about 7. They organise short trips away, most recently down to the Bay & also a nice day ride out to Gunning. They also cater for the smaller bikes/learner's by having a few ppl riding with them, when they are (stupid) speed limited (agh NSW). He did say it was mostly older guys like him riding a variety of scoots, but also that there was a fair bit of 'Vespa-riders keeping to themselves...'

I love the idea for a group that isn't about 'what scoot do you ride?' I will let Nevyn know about the link, as he is in Canb & rides an SC200. I might also check out Atomic this week, if my end of semester uni stuff doesn't get in the way.

For your other query, about trips away, I will ask my sis about her most useful mini things, as she goes away nearly every weekend on her 'big' bike.

     sweet.

I'm heading overseas until the 21st so will look forward to your full report o the meeting. Does your friend with with Xciting have a top box? I think I saw his bike at Motocentral before I picked mine up - mine NEEDS a top box now.

Yep, my neighbour has a large top box. He also bought his scoot from Mitchell, though he's had it for quite a while now. Have a great time overseas and I'll try to drum-up some enthusiastic scooter riders while you're gone. There are a couple of scoot riders at my workplace, so I might put a post up on our social club site too.

Hi Wade, sorry - I had to miss the Atomic meeting, uni stuff had to come first (so much less fun!). I'm pencilling in the next one though. I should be able to find out what's happening, from my neighbour. Might offer to post up their ride details here on scootercommunity, so that potentially more people will find out the details. Did you see Nevyn has joined us?

Hope you have a great time overseas, PP

Anyone know anything about 'KAOS Scooter Club' in Canberra? Also heard of another one, 'Vesperadoes', but am guessing from the name the club is for Vespa riders. I think the Swarm look like they are active again, are they also just for Vespa riders?

Anyone here at SC knows anything about any of these? I will hopefully make it to my first Atomic club meeting this week, but am keen to keep my options open. There seem to be clubs popping up all over the place, can there really be that many more scoot riders in town?! Cheers, PP.

    Re: Scooter groups in Canberra?

In case anybody else from Canberra is interested... I've received some second-hand info on the clubs mentioned above:

KAOS is apparently a tight-knit group of Vespa riders, invite only

The Swarm is a break-away group of Vespa riders, some of which, may have previously been part of Atomic, invite only (possibly, sorry didn't take notes when I was being told this info, so apologies if this is wrong)

The Vesperadoes are a group of old, geared Vespa riders (the scoots, not the riders, or maybe both! Wink)

There is a new group, who don't have a name yet & they are a bunch of semi-retired Vespa riders

Sensing a theme here... looking good for Canberra Vespa riders.

Finally, Atomic is a mixed group of all ages, many of whom are older and (mostly) ride highway capable scoots - any variety (yep, brands other than Vespa!). They do short trips away about once a month. For more info or to get on their mailing list for upcoming rides, email: atomicscooter@hotmail.com
