Update on Track Nights in SEQ

Just thought I'd post this up.

regarding the Track Nights held by the Motorcycle Sportsmen at IKT

IPSWICH KART TRACK Practice sessions are no longer running till early 2009.

And the word from the IKT folk!!!

IMPORTANT NOTICE TRACK RESURFACING. Track will be closed from Sunday 2nd November 2008 till approximately 17th January 2009 with the first race meeting being on the 31st January. Keep an eye on the Web site for updates.

WORKING BEES. From Sunday 2nd November 2008 until the end of resurfacing there will be a working bee every weekend. This will include all nesessary work to finish the resurfacing plus all nesessary work for the Track Safety Inspection early next year. So its all up to members, if you want to have a track to race on or not and if anyone can spare any time during mid week to help with preparations it would be very much appreciated.

Rob has been looking into the possibility of sessions at the Kart Track at Lakeside but the word is they are pretty strict with regards to noise levels of exhausts or something along those lines....  more about that as soon as I hear. I'm not sure of what the track surface is like but hopefully Rob will give us an update about lakeside.

The progress of RAUBER's Road is slowly coming along. A grader has been scheduled to do some leveling very soon. Still a ways to go but some great progress has been made. You should see the size of the table top built for the motards plus the berm which is before the tabletop. Awesome. I did get to see a track map and it looks good with 2 fast sweepers so should be good to test your limits on the extreme shoulder of your tires.... Hoowee.

    more working bees scheduled soon...

Anyway, as soon as I hear more or if anyone else does, post it here...

I've been a bit tardy, & not yet even gotten myself over to actually seen any sessions, except for the one that had a few cars using the full-size track, mentioned a while back.

I'll post away when I have something to report ......unless someone (hopefully) beats me to it!  Smile

Shel & I are really missing the Track Nights at Ipswich Kart Track which is being re-surfaced at the moment.
We really need a speed fix. Devil

We've wondering if anyone here is interested in a Track Day at
Lakeside Raceway, but on the small track of approx 600 metres & on
    pocket bikes?

    See pics below.

As far as I know it's possible to hire the bikes, & I think they meet up the 2nd Sunday of each month.

Let me know if you're interested & I'll post more info when I get it,
as I've emailed the organiser of the pocket racers.

I hope to work my way around to see if there's any chance for scooter
    racing at this track.

    Cheers,
    Rob Smile

hey Rob, posted at SS but interested here. There's a guy called Glen that comes to Archerfield and am hopng to bump into him once I get hold of barry.

Here's a good picture of where the track is located compared to the original layout of the full size track. (This is from a post that Glen posted at http://www.pocket-bike-racing.com.au/forum/north-brisbane-pocket-bike-club/12041-attention-new-track-s-e-qld.html )

he says the full circuit is about a 1km in length so there's some merit there. Hope you here good stuff rob.

I don't remember that much water being around the upper part of the picture when I went out to watch the supertourers years ago when Paul morris was in a BMW.  Should be interesting..

Shel & I are heading out there for a squizz & possibly a blast on one of their hire bikes, today.  I figure on textile jacket with the rest of me leathers.

So every 2nd Sunday (twice per month) which was the email reply I had below.

"Lakeside is going extremly well... Since its inception we have had 100 poeple sign up for a license...

We have two aircooled Cags if you want to have a run around..

Yea we are still every fortnight on Sunday between 12.30 and 4...Exact dates are found on our site..

Just 2 bikes for a trial & a bit of fun. Main objective is to checkout the track & see about our scoots. Smile

Hey K-Star I wouldn't plan on seeing Glen at Archerfield anytime soon. He and his wife Kim have their gripes about that track and never ever come anymore. And if you're hoping to get scooter track time at Lakeside you'll need numbers. I'm not sure what's going on with ownership/management but I know Kim at least used to play a big part in that and she was pissed that the minimotards take track time away from the pocket bikers when there are only a few riders. The original plan was to have pocket bikes and minimotards on seperate days or at least sessions (i.e morning and afternoon) but as previously mentioned there weren't enough numbers to do that. Good luck with it though I might have a chat with Kim to see what's possible myself

    Hey squeeby...yeah thanks for that....

At moment I'm just keen for some track time that I can ride the Jive while I get things sorted out and setup.  it's unfortunate about things like motards taking over...you just gotta look at hopw many full size motards front race meets/track nights at IKT...

But in regards to numbers,  we'd be happy to make up numbers to justify holding track sessions plus more money in the kitty for the club but in regards to pockets vs minimotards vs scoots I think the ratios will always be a little un even.  Maybe have seperate slow and fast groups combined for practice days but that might freak out some of the pocket riders if a scoot was trying to go up the inside and takes out your knees....hmmmm

cheers for the heads up all the same....

Re: Update on Track Nights in SEQ

Just to correct an earlier post.

The bikes aren't "hire bikes".  There are a couple of bikes available for those who want to give it a try.
I can guess they wont be available to those whom have never ridden anything etc etc....only experienced & genuine.

I'm hoping to have my son-in-law's bike for the day.

The info I've got so far is that we'd have to form our own scooter club to race at Lakeside.
Medic etc is run by Lakeside, & the designated flaggy has radio contact with the ambo on standby at the side of the track.
Most of the riders had full bike armour.

The track looks good so far, & some of those pocket bikes were really shifting.
Tuners here will appreciate the sounds coming out of the poor visuals.
Here's some footage of the pocket bikes at Lakeside.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyb0EMIGbPs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cBtCGwHjo4 The 1st bike here is a Ti frame.....very techie! The little tacker was trying out someone's bike as her own was having troubles. Glen was amazing in troubleshooting & fixing several newbies' bikes.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xh30ZDEg0Ww
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuzduaPHdHQ

It was interesting to see the variety of bikes out there. The high-end bikes would be worth 1,000's, & looks like considerable skill needed to pilot such a beast. At the budget end of the scale, they were out for the fun of it, & indeed were having a ball.

The practice sessions were split into two groups: seniors & juniors.
Everyone is given a pre-ride talking to about conduct & course safety etc as there are differing skill / speed levels on the track at the same time.
All in all it all looked very well organised.

When I was leaving they were getting themselves for some actual races. I didn't take up the offer of a practice ride as I had to conserve energy as I already felt challenged from riding there.

I can't get Glens bike sound out of my head. It was something like an RC stunt plane a full throttle coming out of a big dive (no dis-respects intended) Geez, he was certainly fast!  Devil

Oh yeah.....I was very jealous of their pocket bike-specific race tyres. Slick Savas! Boo Hoo!....not available in my scoot's size  Crying

Re: Update on Track Nights in SEQ

As far as I know, Lakeside is having some construction work till February which means that it may not be available to us from about Jan onwards.

The deal with track usage is that it's subsidized by Queensland Raceways, & the track time fee is modest & per person.
Just got to figure out where we can fit-in for a track day which I want to be together with the mini motards & pocket bikes on every 2nd Sunday: twice per month.

I'm offering to escort those wanting to ride smaller CC scoots from the Sunny Coast to Lakeside, going via non-highway roads....I'll be following in my Foulcan cage.
You don't have to have a track-specific tuned-up psycho scoot to have fun: as long as it's roadworthy is plenty of fun.

    I'll keep you posted.

Re: Update on Track Nights in SEQ

From the Honcho of Qld Raceway

    G'day Robert,

We will probably reorganise the way we run our Small Wheel Sundays next year by bringing all the groups under one administration and running separate sessions for the groups in an all day program instead of breaking the day in half as we currently do which is quite inefficient.

Within the day there would be a rota of the different classes which should ensure that all riders get about 90 minutes of track time on the day. Bigger groups will probably get more track time.

Charges will be $40 per head per day with an Accident Benefits contribution of $55 per year or $20 per day.

As you may be aware we have very tight noise restrictions at Lakeside Park and it may be necessary for you to purchase a standardised muffler after we have done some investigation.

The pocket bikes have a clamp on diffuser which costs $20 and the motards have a special pipe supplied by a local shop which costs $30. Both look good and do not have a big effect on performance.

I hope this helps and I look forward to hearing from you.

Merry Xmas to you and yours, jt
