Help Please! Bowell/SYM 50cc wont start!!!

    Hi,

I got a Bowell Jollie 50cc which was in a garage for about 9 month. I put a new battery in it few days ago, and it started with no issue as normal and ran perfectly for couple of days.

Today I started it again, it ran for few minutes, then turned off, refusing to start again. Neither manual or electric will make it start. The oil & petrol seem fine and both filled.

Can anyone tell me what might be the problem? There is only 2 workshop in adelaide dealing with this brand, both with a waiting time of about 2-4 week, so am really hoping to get it running before then.

     Thanks heaps.

    Change the fuel?

    Check oil?

    Spark plug?

Does this scooter make my bum look fast?

Given the history of your scooter having sat around for a long time,  I'd suspect fuel.

More than likely a blockage somewhere.

     Air filter blocked?

Nothing silly like the engine kill switch being on? That has caught me out quite a few times.

hey, thanks for replies. Definetly not the kill switch, i also tried holding either of brakes when starting, in case of faulty switch. If its a blockage, am probly stuffed & got to take it to the shop, i just dont understand how it work perfectly for few days & then stop! I've got an extra spark plug, which i will change over tomorrow. Any other simple fixes you guys can advice me on?

I'd go with kiwi on this one and it can't hurt to drain and check the lines etc etc. after all it would have run fine for sure the first few days then in that time it may have slowly accumulated enough gunk to block a line. Think of your arteries. You're fine for awhile but after a time, things start getting worse then you stop!!!

before you throw a new sparky in, check that the old one is working (you could check it by elimination by tossing in the new one but you could save it from getting gunked up if the problem lies somewhere else.

    Hi again,

It was the spark plug after all. When I took it out, the tip was completely back and bit moist, not sure why, could it be beause it was left in garage or is there some internal fault?

After changing it, the scooter started, with a fair bit of smoke, but at least it did start.

    Thanks heaps everyone
