If your mobile phone doesnt have GPS, as mentioned, the probably most easiest way to do GPS on your bike is to buy one of the 12 volt DC gps units off ebay, navsoon or the like, as they are the easiest to get maps for in either RPM for route66 software of .FBL for miomap/iGO software.

They either run windows mobile 5 or windows ce 4, which are really easy to use and to download free maps. Both allow for exporting and reimporting from google earth route files.

The last 4:3 navsoon i bought was around $150.... run a ciggie plug under your seat with an inline fuse from the battery and just remember to d/c ito stop your scoot scoot going flat...

Youd then keep the unit under the seat and bluetooth or wire the audio to your helmet...

As far as video goes.. a REAL cool way of doing it is using the volvo H.U.D units which, in a volvo, refract speed, MPG, revs, etc onto the windscreen...

Get the gps unit to export the route directions to a text format which is easily displayed thru the hud.

Less cooler way.. use a text screen from a handyboard ( http://www.handyboard.com/ ) and get the GPs unit to display the directions that way...

If your GPS is not working under a car roof then the antenna inside your unit isnt tuned properly, or you have the time on your GPS unit set too far out for the GPS to try to sync to the time codes being sent from the GPS satellites.....

Most tom tom/navman/navsoon units will work under a few feet of dirt.....

You need to remember, when you add a bigger antenna, you are boosting your receive signal.. but you are also boosting the noise... GPS sats only send a time code... the GPS unit picks up what satellites are picking up what time, and figures out where you are.If you set your GPS units time to the same time on the direct opposite of the world to you, then the gps unit will usually show you on the other side of the world....

I have a GPS on my scooter sometimes, its a "Greedy Primate Simian" named Barney. We go wherever he wants to go, usually the Pub.

People find it hard to take a clown seriously.
