My test is on 18th Sept.
I've learned the following already from my first lesson:
If you leave your indicator on for too long after turning, it's an instant FAIL. If you speed more than 10km's over the posted limit during your test, instant FAIL. I think there's also another instant fail, but I forget what it is now. Make sure you only rest on your left foot, even if your on an auto scooter. Two feet for reverse parking into bay's only (or perhaps also in an emergency?)
From what I understand, the trick is being aware of your indicator and showing the assessor that you are very very very observant of what is going on around you. This means when making a manouver in your own lane or into another lane or road, or anywhere check your MIRRORS, indicate (if required), then LOOK AROUND.
The assessor is going to want to see you moving your head around to look left and right (and behind you), this also means at intersections, especially ones with lights, even if the adjacent traffic is still, at a red light, LOOK there.
This was pretty much what I was pegged for during my first lesson. I need to "look around more".
On the U or circle test, keep your indicator on, in the direction you are turning or circling. Be sure to look back when doing your U turn to check for traffic.
Indicate about 30mtrs away from your turn, HOWEVER (this got me), if there's a small road or carpark entry before your turn, try to leave your indication until just after or just on that turn off, then indicate for your turn.
When going from a single-lane turn off into a dual-lane road, ride directly into the lane you desire, do it in one move, not two.
Ride where it is safe. on the left or right side of your own lane. EG keep left if safe, move to the right of your lane if there are lots of parked cars on the left or people trying to pull out in cars, or cyclists, or poorly parked cars. When doing this just check mirrors and look, no need to indicate unless changing lanes. (do not ride in the middle of the lane)
When turning, try to be on the appropriate side of the lane you are turning from. If your turning left from the left lane, stay in the left (if safe), if your in the right lane turning left, sit in the left hand side of that right lane. This helps prevent anyone slipping up next/beside/past you during the turn.
wow, that was a lot. heh. just some of the stuff I learned! I'm practicing my looking around and positioning on my 50' each day to work and back :)
I'll hopefully be up at ACE on Saturday for another morning ride to get some more experience on the bigger scoot! yay!
