So it is comparable. Great! And hopefully as more companies get it on their books, competition will bring the price down. They should take into account that there is no chance of it bursting into a ball of petrol fueled flames when they do their risk analysis! lol

 I have just started using my Vectrix, which I won as a door prize! I have had some interesting comments on the road - seems that many people have never heard of these and can't believe there is no petrol engine. One couple today switched off their car, a diesel ute, so they could wacth me reverse up and take off withoout any engine noise.

I had only ridden classic bikes in the past, so a scooter with an electric motor is a real novelty for me. It would be good to have reliably available recharging points around the city - I live in outer Melbourne

Have you checked with your local Council? I have also asked @ shopping ctrs, car dealers, tyre repair places (they often have accessable ppoints outside), pretty much anywhere I ride. I just tell them it will cost maybe 30-40 cents for a couple hours. Most say OK.

I also usually leave some brochures on the seat of my scooter for any passers-by. I feel it's just great to get the info out there.

Do you find the quietness an issue - especially with pedestrians that walk off the footpath without hearing you coming?  I saw a couple of vetrix scooters at the Melbourne protest ride a year or so ago and it was freaky how they just seem to glide along silently.

Yes - quietness is a problem. I had a pedestrian walk out in front of me this afternoon as I was turning a corner.

 I've never had a problem with the quietness. I am very aware about 'sneaking' up on pedestrians so I am extra careful & will usually beep the horn to warn them of my presence. I love the quiet & most people I have talked to appreciate it too.

Hi all I have just had my Vectrix for only about 3 weeks and are loving it. I travel to work & back about 20km each way at speeds of 70km/h with a stretch of about 5km traveling 90 -100km/h along a expressway. It is fast ninble has great brakes (regenerative is fantastic) and when i get home i have about 1/3 rd battery charge left. At these speeds and aggressive acceleration I seem to be getting around 50-60km per charge. Its more good for getting to and from work & commuting around Adelaide cheap. A friend of mine who is really into bikes commented that it had better brakes than his ninga and he was astonished with the handling & electric powerplant. I am just a learner and this is my first bike so I thought this was very encouraging. From the learner perspective it handles well, I can negotiate & pass traffic easilly, parks with reverse and I don't have to worry about stalling it ever! On the downside in SA my insurance is alot more with on NRMA at about $900 through swan, but I am a learner and my friends insurance on his bike is $1600 for the same insured value.

I would reccomend that everybody should get a test drive as I is fantastic to ride and makes you think the future is here now!

For a scoot so new to a very small market for maxi's and so novel being electric, it sure does seem to be doing ok in the sales stakes. Oz only sells about 600 maxis a year so to see 3 Vectrix's on this site alone is very encouraging. I'd love an electric scoot, just finances did not permit this time around. Plus I'm really hoping on some technology advancements in the next few models and maybe a bit more mileage from them. I love touring on my scoot and would feel a little limited with the short range capacity of this scoot. It wouldn't even get me to my sisters house and back without a recharge. Lets hope some genius finds a way for these suckers to reach out a good 300kms or so in the next few years. They look and sound like awesome scoots.

I am about to take ownership of a Vectrix in Sydney and probably should have asked these questions earlier, but... can anyone in NSW tell me: - How does the RTA classify the Vectrix here and what kind of annual license costs should I expect? - What drivers license do I need to get, assuming I am 30+ and have a full car driver's license? - Are there any electric powered savings afforded by NSW government that I should be aware of? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Avron

 I'm in QLD but I believe the Vectrix is rated as a 250cc in all states.

 Yes i asked the vectrix boys this and i am sure it is classed as a 250 cc capacity. So you are going to need your motorcycle licence firstly then you will have your normal annual rego costs. So Green Slip and RTA fee each year. As a 250 the green slip should be around the $170 mark so around 260 a year to register the thing.

Remember at 30 plus you get to skip the time periods between getting your L's and the most test but everything else will apply as per normal. This means that if your comfortable on the scooter you dont have wait the 3 month period to go back and get your P's and by the way this also means that you get your full licence once you go back and do the provisional course meaning no 12 months on your P's. So get your L's go back and do the pre provisional and MOST test and then your up to ride anything on the market.

And with the recent political upheaval and the announcement of a $1 billion budget deficit,  I guess electricity prices in NSW will increase
