    Vectrix Maxi-Scooter

I've had my Vectrix now for 6 months & love it. Anyone else have one of these all electric 2 wheelers? Everywhere I ride I check out power-point potentials.

Sorry I didnt find your thread earlier. I am very interested in the Vectix's performance. How do you find the electric scooter?

What distances are you getting from a charge? How fast?

Welcome to the forum, you're the first Electric member.

Welcome to the forum,  nice to see someone with a Vectrix.

It would be great if you could write a full review.

Yep, Ditto what the other two said.  Big Smile

What's the approximate CC equivalent?   Sounds like it'd be even more fun if one had an array of solar panels at home.

    Re: Vectrix Maxi-Scooter

    Hi dozer,

My distances really vary because I live up in Kuranda (15 klm mostly up hill & mostly a 60km/hr limit), but I'll give a typical example.

When I go to Cairns which is about a 33 km trip I only use about 1/2 the battery. And going down hill I don't use much + it regenerates up to 12%. While in Cairns I've got 2 shopping ctrs I can plug in at (so far). I just tell them I'm there-no charge. I usually charge it for an hour while I'm shopping & this gets me home again. Going home takes more 'juice' as it's up hill, so I usually use about 12 of 17 bars that show the amount of battery I have left. It takes about 10 min. per bar to charge so that should give you an idea. It takes longer for it to go through it's whole reconditioning process (4-6 hrs) which I do once I get home.

It costs me 55-65 cents for a full charge. I checked it with one of those energy meters you can get from the library.

So back to the distances. If you are just buzzing around town you can probably get 80-90km. At 90km/hr I reckon I'd get 35-40km. I still have to test this one out as most of my trips are either local or down to cairns. I've had it up to it's maximum of 105km/hr - very smooth.

Hardly ever use the brakes because of the regeneration system - acts like an air brake on a truck. And I love having reverse. Since the bike is over 200 kilos it really helps.

For me, when I get on the Vectrix it's like climbing into/onto a limo. Verrrry comfortable.

    Hi Rob,

Yes, I'm looking into solar panels. I'm looking forward to when they integrate solar into the paintwork (or a small prtable light weight setup).

Vectrix is rated as a 250cc

I'd love to own a Vectrix and an all electric scooter is going to be my next one. I just didn't buy it this time because of the higher price and I think it will be an even better buy when the design has matured a few production models. But I'd love to hear all about your experiences with one.

how have you organised this ? do you take your power lead and you know where a power point is thats handy at the shopping centre

Is this what you do ?  And the shopping centre just lets you plug into it .....

or is it a designated power point for electric scooters ? would love to hear more about this

    Re: Vectrix Maxi-Scooter

If I don't see any obvious powerpoints I just go to management and ask them if they have any ppts available. One of the shopping ctrs have a pwr pt right where the motorcycle parking is  - very handy!. Here, I plugged in & then went and asked management if it was ok & that it would only cost about 30-40 cents for 1-1 1/2 hrs. I said I was happy to pay & she said don't worry, just let me know when you are plugged in so I can tell security. So, I do.

The other day I was running a bit low on battery pwr to get up the hill so I asked at the Toyota service ctr (next to a different shopping ctr) if I could plug in for 1/2 an hr so I could get back up the hill (I always like a margin of safety on my battery). The guy was very accommodating. I carry a 15m extension cord under the passenger seat & that worked perfectly.

Happy to answer any other questions you may have. I'm still learning about distances and differences in terrain & how that affects the distance. It's a lot of fun and I meet some great people (not to mention helpful) along the way.

    Re: Vectrix Maxi-Scooter

I think it's great Vectrix have made a maxi as their first production model. But for a scooter with a short range I would have been more keen on something about 150cc size. Maybe there would be a bit more range in that as well with a smaller body. I know it's not hard to ride a maxi around the city but that weight would be tough to move around for parking, on and off stand etc...The power point thing though would be easier than it first appears. I always check for outdoor powerpoints when I'm out for my laptop charging. Councils have a surprising number of outdoor (unlocked) powerpoints in community parks, boardwalks and esplanades. It would actually be quite easy to park up next to one and charge. They could even install one in parking meters and you could pay to use it. The potential is enormous. But I suppose the best solution would be a portable panel system you carried around yourself. Cool if they could make a backpack with a bit more solar power than the ones that charge your mobile...

    Re: Vectrix Maxi-Scooter-weight

The reverse on the scooter comes in VERY handy when parking & manouvering. And they have to come out with a lighter and more efficient lithium-ion battery or something even better. I notice they are now making electric dirt bikes. They are great on the racing circuit - more efficient - no shifting required & instant torque. Can you imagine a 'quiet' dirt bike race?

Yes, you are right about the council pwr pts. A lot of the BBQ areas also have pwr pts.

The Vectrix just has a kickstand. I don't think I could get it up on one of the other ones.

And I like the backpack idea. Just need a little more Ooomph!

I guess the Vetrix takes AC power then? Solar panels produce DC power, you can buy AC/DC convertor/regulators but do you really want to be carrying these around?

I like your idea of the power outlets being built into the parking meters.

Now to be found "working" at Ace Scooters (sales, accessories, coffee maker, dish washer, gopher and general stirrer).

Currently riding a Vespa GTS250ie. Hopefully this will be the last time I upgrade. For a while atleast.

    Re: Vectrix Maxi-Scooter-weight

Yes, it's AC.Just plug into a normal pwr pt. At the moment it's easier to carry an extension cord. A battery with 150-200 km range would be my ideal at the moment.

UK have plug in stops now. It's only a matter of time.

Great to read all your posts, as I'm thinking this will be my next buy. I have one question - How much did you pay in insurance? Do you think it was comparable to what you might pay for a petrol 250cc or do you think you paid more because of the higher price of the Vectrix?
No one ever said on their deathbed that they wished they'd spent more time at the office.

I paid $346.15 for comprehensive with NRMA. Don't know what a 'normal' 250cc costs. NRMA were the only ones in Queensland who would insure the Vectrix. The others didn't have the Vectrix on their books yet. I will compare before I renew next time.
