Despite some initial reservations I actually had a ball today, I was the only scooter rider there but felt welcome & catered for with the instructors (there was one instructor for every four riders) making scooter & motorbike specific comments & suggestions. There were some derogatory remarks made by other riders at lunch but I just ignored them especially since they weren't made directly to me. Now I'm cold, tired, sore but happy that when I ride out tomorrow I'll be a more confident & probably a safer rider.
The course started in the streets around the company - the training went back over emergency braking in a straight line (as learnt during lessons prior to a test) as well as emergency braking when cornering, setting yourself up correctly for cornering and riding through bends in the road, general awareness of everything around you, riding in formation in a group in a urban setting & in a straight line in a rural setting, correct riding positions in the lane in both settings etc More than I can remember right now.
The scoot kept up well with the group of 4 newbie riders I was included with, infact I could well have gone to the next group but was happy to mosy along with the newbies. A couple of the instructors made favourable sounds over the pickup of the LG when we stopped for a rest while out on the ride (200km+ from Perth to Toodyay & back).
Unfortunately I had to quit before the final & most difficult leg (around the area where Peter Brock died) due to health problems, but I was really happy with what I had learnt & the value for money of the course which cost $125 including a nice cafe lunch. All up I feel it was money & time well spent with me riding away feeling more positive & confident about my riding skills in a variety of settings.
