How often do you clean/wash your scooter?

Its a chilly 10˚C here, and I had been riding all week in the wet, so I thought it was time to clean the GT200. I have found that on average, I wash the GT every 2 weeks, and then put turtle wax on it, to provide a protective coating on it. I find that a clean scooter is a seen scooter, as you get rid of road grime, and it shines better. I was the Vespa fortnightly, and the car once a month!!!

With water restrictions, when it needs it.

I find I get a better clean by doing  it at the car wash, and it stays cleaner.

Does this scooter make my bum look fast?

So you take it to the car wash? I was thinking that,  but thought the high pressure may be too much?

I have also wondered about using the high pressure at a car wash. Sproket gets a wash every week or two...depending on weather. However, today the kidlings and gramdlings were here and Sproket was woken up, and used as a 'pony' for quiet some time....will have a wash tomorrow.

A damp cloth is often all that is needed, plus window cleaner for the lights. All my panels (on the Agility) are plastic and I find dirt/bird poop wipes off easily, so soapy water isn't necessary.

Aren't you worried about the paintwork being scratched? The Fly's paintwork seemed to scratch really easily, it was covered in hairline scratches all over by the time it was sold on. Three months after buying it Embarrassed

I'll usually give the scoot a hose off before attacking with a gentle soapy wash & another hose off. I had thought about using the local car wash but thought it would damage the scoot, now I know Daks does it I might have to give it a go. I use minimal water washing the scoot, but it would be good to know that I'm using recycled water.

Now to be found "working" at Ace Scooters (sales, accessories, coffee maker, dish washer, gopher and general stirrer).

Currently riding a Vespa GTS250ie. Hopefully this will be the last time I upgrade. For a while atleast.

There is this stuff called waterless wash. I think it is by polyglaze. I use this like it's going out of fashion. I do the gts every 2 days cos it lives outside and the lx once a week cos it gets the garage. If you use a soft rag it doesn't mark the paint at all. I also use mag wheel cleaner once a week and hose it off when the neighbours aren't looking. I'm a bit obsessive but i've always been like that and my bikes are always immaculate. The poor car is a different story....

I'm with you,   I never wash my scooter !

Actually I have to admit I have a boy (no, not my son,  a neighbours son) wash mine about every two weeks,  $10 wash, chamois dry, quick polish of all the mirrors etc,  even vacuums the underseat bin and tops up the 2 stroke oil compartment.

Paintwork can get damaged quite easily if the equipment you use isn't spotless.  Even a little bit of dirt or sand in your cleaning rag can make quite a mess of paintwork, so you need to be scrupulous.

Fortunately I never have to clean my scooter.  Keith or Bill normally do it for me Angel  Which is nice.  A busy workshop is a happy workshop - well, that's what I tell them.

I agree Steve. I have a dedicated kit (bucket, chamois, microfibre, and soft towel based polish cloth and alloy brush) that after cleaning, all goes into the washing machine, and properly dried for the next time. I did not ride it this morning, it was wet, and the scooter is in showroom condition today.

Yes, I'm a clean freak, but its my pride and joy, so I guess thats OK?

Re: How often do you clean/wash your scooter?

I would have to say I have neglected the Agility lately Embarrassed

Been over a couple of months since she was washed.

I even have a bit of rust on the exhaust which I think will need to be repainted and then I will get some Waterless Wash like Haddles2000 was talking about.

The neglect must stop!! Stick out tongue

Thanks for the reminder to the error of my ways Devil

Wife first, scooters and birds second.
    Got to remember that order......
